  1. Black Cadillac is darker than its predecessor, but with melodies often more complex and lyrics more stunningly poetic than anything its creator has conjured before, the album is more transforming than depressing, and exquisitely beautiful.
  2. At times, Cash nails the knife-edge of hurt and love so adeptly, you feel like you're intruding on too-personal confessions.
  3. This album is extraordinary. It is brave, difficult, and honest. It is utterly moving and beautiful. Because it so successfully marries all of her strengths as a songwriter, singer, and musician, Black Cadillac may be the crowning achievement of her career thus far.

    A tear-stained, yet tasteful, requiem. [Feb 2006, p.93]
  5. At every turn -- high-mountain balladry, brassy R&B, near-metallic blues rock -- Rosanne sings of coming through loss with a poise and confessional will that are utterly country and absolutely in the family tradition.

As personal as the album is, there is a universal quality to Cash's songwriting that will make listeners embrace the intimate feelings here as their own. [18 Feb 2006]

Morbid, maybe, but she handles it all with dignity. [Mar 2006, p.106]

Rosanne's voice has never been so heavy with emotion, and she has never looked this far outside herself in her songs. There is a lot to think about and to feel. Each offering here is a polished gem--a remarkable achievement. Expand

To these ears, INTERIORS is as stripped-down and emotional an album as say, Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon. While BLACK CADILLAC might be a To these ears, INTERIORS is as stripped-down and emotional an album as say, Plastic Ono Band by John Lennon. While BLACK CADILLAC might be a bit more ornate and diverse instrumentally, lyrically it visits the same raw, ominous, emotionally wrenching territory, and then goes way past it. There are a couple of songs here, notably "Radio Operator" which recall "Seven Year Ache" or "Hold On" in a musical sense, while the title track begins as a dirge, with production that would make Daniel Lanois drool. The woman has come full circle with this effort, reflecting on her past in so many ways it's both a joy and a pain to hear, simply because she once again has laid her soul bare for the listener. A stunning release, and one that will likely be viewed in years to come as her very best album. Some people have the incredible gift of taking emotions and making them universal---without being preachy or maudlin. Her loss is the listener's gain. Rest In Peace: June Carter Cash, Johnny Cash, and Vivian Liberto Cash Distin. Expand

Black Cadillac I recently had the honor of watching her perform at Carnegie Hall and meeting her afterward. I consider myself a HUGE fan now. Black Cadillac is to me, about journeys of the soul, heart and coming up stronger, wiser and more at peace. She's even greater live - a true artist! Expand

2006 is still young and one of the best albums of the year is already out. Bravo Rosanne!

Like listening in to Johhny's daughter's bedside chat to herself, confidential but she is bearing it all and it is a beautiful listen. But the phrase "Westward leading, still proceeding?" Where have I heard that before? Some one tell me? Collapse

Some of the stuff is a bit too MOR and gets a bit boring after few listens. Rosanne Cash has a tendency to sound a bit too adult sometimes which is a criticism in my book anyway..but still: very strong effort overall. Expand
