Black Sun is an infectious, dance-oriented release that summons the new romantic spirit, if not the moussed hair and neon blush, of such '80s bands as Duran Duran, ABC, and Spandau Ballet.

Exotic without ever being self-conscious, dreamy without ever missing the beat, and serious without losing the capacity for serious fun, Black Sun is a rare and heavenly event in the crowded universe of EDM.

Whether consciously or not, Gold Fields have created an album whose pure, visceral pleasures are so effective they preclude much else.

Each song is constructed carefully and intentionally, much like their album as a whole.
  5. 60
Overall, the few great tracks balance out the filler, and Gold Fields manages to forge a hodgepodge of weathered songs into something wholly emotional.

The rehashed sound is tight and does a decent job of refining the genre. [Jan-Feb 2013, p.93]
