Worst Garbage album. All this obvious faux femmenist nonsense. the album even sounds bad, the video to current single 'why dont you love me' is dire. Manson's voice is poor, too. it might me a cliche to say this, but garbage really have become nothing more than a parody of themselves. I'm totally gutted because this album almost reduces the quality of their back catalogue, which I think is great. It feels like a sell-out, and I suspect it is. It's to keep things ticking over and I'd rather they split up than sink to these depths of the mediocre. Expand

this album is about as bad as the single. at least the last album had a couple of good songs, this one is just plain bad.

Garbage's laziest effort to date. Highly dissapointed in a band that created two of the best albums of the 90s, even garning a Best Album of Year Grammy nomination for "Version 2.0". Surely, this can't be the same band. Even the flop "BeautifulGarbage" was more creative and interesting than this effort.

This was a big disappointment. I was looking for Garbage to bounce back from their last poor album and sadly, this didn't do it. A lethargic, uninspired collection of filler in my opinion. Trite lyrics such as "be my bad boyfriend" aren't suddenly clever just because of the role reversal in them. There were a 2-3 songs worthy of putting on the album, but the rest really felt boring to me. Expand

It is Garbage as usual with hard hits, strong balads and a smooth Shirley. The problem is it sounds an awful like Beautiful Garbage. Perhaps this is the direction they want to go. I thought there best work was Version 2.0 - which still leaves me listening again and again. But that's me.

It's like someone took four of the most visceral people in rock and sucked all the talent out of them. Words fail me - there was more conviction and depth in that Garth Brookes album in which he "became" a whole new character commiting career suicide in the process. It's that bad!

This is a horribly bland and tired album. Wake me up when it's over!

such a obvious attempt to try and reclaim the success that they once had. as bad as beautifulgarbage was at least they tried to do something different, to change things up. listening to this album puts you in a timewarp to 1996, it sounds so badly dated before the album even ends. I can't even believe i use to like this band.

It can't help but be well produced, but the songs are abrasive and the lyrics have slipped from cruel to petty. Shirley Manson is always a treat vocally, but this is a soulless outing. Too bad Curve just broke up; Garbage could have learned something from Geri and Dean!

  1. Humongous hooks. [15 Apr 2005, p.77]
  2. The first two-thirds of Bleed Like Me is easily the best sustained run of studio Garbage since the opening half of their 1995 debut.
  3. While Manson's changeling vocals are always worth listening to, Garbage's songs often aren't.
