  1. It is a wonderful debut effort, and all of the buzz and the attention they have garnered up to this point is likely only the beginning for AlunaGeorge.

Despite the part-compilation/part-extras makeup, this is one of the year's more enjoyable debuts.

Moving from urgent dance-pop (“Bad Idea”), to minimalist pillow talk (“Friends to Lovers”), to bassy underground undertows (“Lost and Found”), Body Music is the sound of AlunaGeorge just getting started--and they could go anywhere from here.

Their sound is more pop than R&B or electronic, more domestic than futuristic, and more formulaic than innovative. But it works for them. It’s accessible electro-pop music that you can’t help but be smitten with.

Aluna and George balance each other in the perfect see-saw, and Body Music is an absolute playground of pop music.

As a a slice of accomplished, sophisticated urban pop you'll find none finer this summer.

AlunaGeorge have done the impossible with Body Music: they've made the dynamic, progressive pop album we all hoped for.

AlunaGeorge could well be challenging old touring partners Disclosure for pop crossover supremacy this summer.

As with many debuts, AlunaGeorge’s album has remarkable highs but is tempered by a few weaker moments.

It’s well done, fun to listen to, and a damn sight better than 90% of other pop music right now, yet you couldn’t really describe it as essential.

Body Music shows R&B continuing to expand its scope, stealing the cues of hip-hop and electronic music, which draw strength from their omnivorous appetites.

There's not much wrong with Body Music, but its constellation of contemporary electro-pop elements can sometimes feel too slick for its own good.

Body Music is thus an intelligent hot pot of sounds all meshed together flawlessly, and intelligently; a breath of fresh air.
  14. 83
Though Body Music contains only one true misfire (the immediately forgettable “Kaleidoscope Love”), the album’s strongest tracks glow so bright that fine songs such as “Diver,” “Lost and Found” and “Bad Idea” can get lost in their shadow, at least on early listens.

While Aluna Francis sings tart kiss-offs to foolish exes, producer George Reid keeps the digital activity as stylish and minimalist as a Helmut Lang showroom.

AlunaGeorge are a pop act at heart, with most of this debut’s songs anchored to a radio-friendly chorus.

Body Music sounds like a potential hit, rather than an intriguing curiosity.
  18. It's an assured collection of pure pop with an independent sensibility, equal parts Kylie and The XX.
  19. 75
It’s a record certainly fine enough to ensure the pairing will have no issues sprinting to the upper echelons of pop aristocracy.

Francis glides along, deliciously unresolved about a relationship. The hype was not wrong.

AlunaGeorge have built a happy marriage out of the slick and the smart, and with Body Music, they just might manage the trick of making everyone else--from old fans to new ones; from critics to their record labels--happy too.

They ooze a confidence that marries the seductive mews of Aaliyah with something just slightly sinister. It's a combination that could easily sound forced, but Francis has mastered the trick of adding a nuance to her purrs that makes them intoxicating.
