    Born To Die is an interesting album. There is a lot of different textures in it, a lot of ambiances, attitudes and feelings. But the production of the songs are way too heavy and overproduced. It feels like the album is stuck in a middle of a bridge between pop-music and indie-music but doesn't dare to go in a way or another.

    Born to Die was a material designed to be commercial, damaging the creative process of the album. Plunged into a sickly hip hop, the album has its good points, such as the title track and 'Million Dollar Man' and negatives that crucify the work like 'Diet Mountain Dew' and 'Carmen'.

    This is one the most cohesive albums of all times. The lyrics are beautiful, the instrumentals are something you couldn't often see when the album was released... I simply love it.

    Only 62 from the critics? Really? It's a shame. I mean, Summertime Sadness, Born To Die, Video Games, Blue Jeans and of course Dark Paradise...This album represents Alternative music in the 2010s. She's like the Queen of Alternative and indie pop and this album proves that.

    Almost perfect album. The highs are some of the most haunting yet captivating pop tracks of the decade. Memorable and for someone growing up with Born to Die - surely capable of making memories, something the album longs for via nostalgia.

    Her best album in my opinion. Her voice paired with her lyrics and the violins and hip-hop beats are so different than what we hear today. It is a perfect album. Every single song is perfectly written. Each song is poetry. She really knows how to convey emotion in her singing. This was a perfect album.

"Born to die " divided critiques who then could either love it's invention and timeliness aesthetic or found her entirely packaged, boring snd a fad. The latter were wrong as born to die would become the blue print of an iconoclastic genre of sad girl whisper pop juggernauts(eg.lorde,billie ellish etc)time would be extremly kind to this record as it improves the more you hear it's delicious textures.

    For debuts "Born to die " gives others a run for their money. It bushed and created boundaries and showed artists didn't need to belt lile Beyonce or Adele to infiltrate billboard. It took the world in a more gray direction moody direction inflected with trip hop beats and vulnerable lyrics. From the dramatic plea of the openers first words to the astoundingly creative winder of "off to the races ",which pushed what could be pop. Nothing is black and white here, alongside images of patriotism ,the American dream and heart ache are genuine expressions of her experiences she's had or is preparing to have. It has a freedom other records just couldn't evoke such as the slick swagger of "blue jeans" or the giddy & tipsy "diet mountain dew" which sounds like an irresistible 20's jingle. In spite of disarming (though sometimes off pitch) vocals and watertight aesthetic there is a power to her words,lyrics come first to glorious results. Such as the standard editions closer or "carmen".

The cohesiveness of the album combined with the soft vocals and strong messages portrayed on each track make for an excellently told tragic love story. So naturally I took some time before listening to her past albums. Born to die has many little pockets of hidden vocal genius-ness. When I looked up the album online most of the appreciation was towards title track and video games. But what got my attention was off to the races and Lolita. She uses two different voices there - a bold, deep voice when she sings to the listener and a high pitched squeaky voice when she sings to her old man. The interesting fact is that research shows older men (let's say 35-45) like the squeaky voice more in a woman because that indicates the youthfulness of a female. As in they prefer young girls. It's so intelligent if Lana to modulate her voice to signify the difference. Lolita, the song itself is inspired from the book Lolita in which an older man is in love with a 14 year old girl. This hidden gem -her voice modulation- sadly is so easily overlooked. This is an added bonus to the lyrical masterpieces she's produced. The production of the songs did not remove her vulnerability and emotions.… Expand

    though she has put out multiple wonderful works since born to die, i think ultimately it will always be my favorite. this is the album that i first fell in love with. truly iconic.

    It's a good album. I love how she shows her feelings in each of her songs, and the production... it's so good. I love the dream pop sound of her album because it got me in the feels.

    This album has some songs that I skip, like Million Dollar Man, but the highs are so high and what it's offering can't be found anywhere else. That makes it a 10 for me. It's a really enjoyable sound and vibe with some great vocals and lyrics

    Un clásico de los años 10s y uno de los mejores álbumes indie pop de la historia. Si bien, el álbum puede llegar a sonar incompleto en algún pequeño y casi notorio punto nos podemos dar cuenta de que Lana nos mete en su peligroso mundo con hombres mayores, Pepsi-Cola y drogas desde la segunda canción, haciendo que el álbum cobre vida propia.
