Britney, the self tilted album from Britney Spears shows the maturity from her teen pop sound that she strated her career with. I must say Britney is not completely grown up and a women but she is almost there and this was the right step in her new sound and maturity.

    - My favorites from this album are

Not a huge fan of Britney’s “ pop rock songs “.

Britney's departure from bubblegum music begins here. She is.after all not a girl anymore to stay in that some but she is not yet a woman to be changing drastically with how.she siunds. But it srill has the signature Britney the world loves. Enjoyable to listen from start tonfinish.

This album clearly shows a more mature Britney, separating herself from the bubblegum music (which we didn't might at all, as well). There's something so evolving about her tone in some of this tracks, not to mention the delivery of hits, once again.

This was Britney's first attempt to show a more mature and personal side of herself, and it worked partly because it didn't really sound personal and honest. The production is perfect with some mix of pop, contemporary r&b, and pop-rock. Overall a good album.

Used to be my least favourite Britney album, now my absolute favourite. I love this album so much, every song is amazing and works so well with the theme. It's a perfect sequel to the "Oops!.. A fantastic pop album that transitioned Britney from a sweet, teen pop star to an adult vixen. The dichotomy between these two personas and life eras are highlighted throughout the album, rendering it less than cohesive. Nevertheless, the overall record is extremely enjoyable and shows tremendous growth from her first two records.

There were so many potential hit singles on here, but the record label was really insistent on releasing the worst possible tracks (initial plan was to release filler "Bombastic Love" for the lead, and then subsequent moderately successful efforts included a push for "Boys" and the wholly unimpressive "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" cover).

"Britney" was one of the best-selling albums of the 2000s for a reason. The album is pop perfection, spawned six singles and the era was iconic.
This album came out only a year and a few months after Britney‘s legendary sophomore album "Oops!...I Did It Again" (2000). It was a departure from Britney’s previous two albums. She was 19 at the time of its release and started to move away from her teen bubblegum pop sound and you could definitely hear this in this album. Britney was slowly becoming a woman. Britney started to experiment a bit with different genres on this album, while still maintaining pieces of her teen pop sound. Also the first time in her career, Britney co-wrote multiple songs on this album. 6 to be exact. The biggest shockers on this album must’ve been "I‘m a Slave 4 U" and "Boys" at the time. These two songs sound like nothing Britney had (and has) done. Both songs go more in an R&B and hip-hop direction. "Boys" even incorporates traces of funk music. Britney whispers, raps and moans her way through those two sexy songs. They are also both extremely danceable (every Britney fan can do the iconic "Slave" choreo). In my opinion, "I‘m a Slave 4 U" is definitely Britney's best song. It still sounds fresh and it’s so different, sexy and fun.
On "Lonely" and "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" Britney also experiments with rock music but gives it a danceable sound with hip-hop influences. "Anticipating" has a 70s disco sound and is a feel-good bop. On the mid-tempo songs "That's Where You Take Me", "Before the Goodbye" and "When I Found You", Britney plays with electronica music. The ballad "I Run Away" features strings and is one of Britney's best ballads of her entire career in my opinion. "What It’s Like to Be Me" is a fierce uptempo bop that you just can’t help but dance to. Of course, there are also some pure pop jams here that remind you of Britney’s first two albums. The masterpiece "Cinderella", the personal "Overprotected" and "Bombastic Love" all still maintain that iconic teen pop sound but still sound a lot more mature than the songs on Britney‘s previous two albums. This album has a few autobiographical moments. On the beautiful pop ballad "I‘m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" Britney talks about growing up. A very relatable song. "Overprotected" predicted Britney’s future as she sings about being tired of being manipulated and overprotected. Then there are some romantic ballads/mid-tempo songs like "When I Found You", which could be about her boyfriend at that time. "Britney" marks a very important moment in Britney‘s life and career. The album is a transition from her teen pop sound of her previous two albums to the mature sound that her next album "In the Zone" (2003) had. You can hear Britney become a woman in this album. "I‘m Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman" is really the best way to describe it. This record is fun, experimental and hasn’t aged a day. Favorites: I‘m a Slave 4 U, I Run Away, Cinderella, Overprotected & Lonely

Britney was a mix and fits in the middle in a transition in Britney's career.
Pure pop with R&B/Dance songs showing that innocent Britney was leaving for good.

I seriously do not understand why this album is so underrated. I agree that it's not britney's best work, but at the same time this album accomplishes so many anthems, such as I'm A Slave 4 U, Overprotected and Lonely. And it's a mark for her career, because it really separates the Britney from her past two albums, from the Britney of the albums to come.

Same case as Oops... I Did it Again, there are some strong tracks on the album, but the ones that don't stand out are just pointless.

A real good one by the Princess of Pop - one of her best. But it's by no means an "Oops!" or a "Blackout." It is however better than "In The Zone" and "Circus." It's a mix of "drama-pop" songs (Lonely, Bombastic Love, Overprotected) and r&b-oriented stuff (I'm a Slave 4 U, Boys). The album where the Pop Princess becomes more and more interesting.

A perfect cross-over album for Britney Spears - moving on from bubblegum to more serious and raunchy r&b pop.

Just another socially engineered singer. The only thing that keeps these people afloat are pepsi commericials, and weak minded people.

In my opinion, this is Britney's best album. It stands out from her three others (four, counting My Prerogative) because of its dancey sound. The lyrics are more mature than Oops!... and ...Baby One More Time, the sound is a whole new dimension, and her voice is awesome. Okay, so the biggest guilty shame of all time strikes again. Britney is the third album from the pop princess, and the most scattered of her efforts. As if not knowing which direction she should go after two albums of bee-boppy teen pop, Spears tries on every outfit: the sex goddess in

Britneys voice actually is at it's best on this album. While a few songs drag, this is the perfect pop album.

even if it is sometimes catchy, the result is just an ordinary pop record, with poor vocals and simple production. and the ballad "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman" is absolutely awful

She is also very beautiful, but her sultry, delicious vocals coupled with thought-provoking lyrics mean that she never needs to depend on her image to sell. One good song, Overprotected, but nothing else that stands out, this album is a clear miss, and the sales will show that, maybe not for this album, but if the next one is as bad, she'll loose a lot of fans...

First of all, Britney Spears wrote 5 songs on this album, that totally rock, and second of all she still got your money for the purchase of her CD. I think girls that think Britney is a slut are very insecure because they don't look like her or they are jealous. This album is amazing. Keep up the good work Brit!!!!!

It's enough of a reinvention to suggest that Britney will know what to do when the teen-pop phenomenon of 1999-2001 passes for good.
  2. While she's been guilty of gluing sure-fire singles together with rotten fillers on her previous two albums, Britney uses this opportunity to take the odd risk and adds a welcome edge to her sound.
  3. An unmitigated drag.
