  • Summary: The follow-up to the San Francisco duo's 2009 debut album is a six-song album.

  1. Though he can be likened to a number of classic singers, some of the all-time greats might I add, his work is his own and ultimately original in its identity.

Broken Deams Club may be littered with broken hearts, but this Girls' EP is much more likely to steal yours than to shatter it.

Everything is more complex, more daring, and simply more produced than anything else they've done. In that sense, it's the best kind of EP, existing because of a discernable creative spark, not as a clearinghouse for also-ran songs or a victory lap following a knockout year.

Broken Dreams Club may only be an EP, but if it's any indication of the future of the band, then Girls will sophomore soar, rather than slump.
  5. Girls are a band who release their intoxicating mist over time, making this mini-album a bit unsatisfying in quantity rather than quality.

It's a scatterbrainedness that makes Girls endearing and frustrating at the same time, and it's pertinent to remember that Elvis Costello often sang about more than just girls. Still, it's hard to begrudge a band their niche when they do it so well.

Now, they're just going through the motions.

Broken Dreams Club is probably the best EP i've ever heard. Girls continue to expand their sound from their masterpiece Album and prove that they are one of the best indie bands right now Expand

These six songs on the follow up to 2009's Album are beautifully crafted in the most stubborn way. Last years LP had its flaws and drones, but with Broken Dreams Club there are no mess ups or lazy recordings (God Damned from Album). Broken Dreams Club has trumpets, layered guitars and picture perfect drums, all surrounded by Chris Owens' Elvis Costello swing of vocals. This EP really brings out the potential these guys have and hopefully their sophomore album will continue to progress as the musicians discover their talents. Expand
