Q Magazine[Falls] between the arch electronic vistas of later Magazine and skewed, Giorgio Moroder-esque avant-pop. [Feb 2002, p.114]
-
An uneven collection of synthesized experimentation that relies too heavily on familiar and cliched electronic tricks to sound original.
-
ShelleyDevoto is obviously having a blast, and while Buzzkunst is no thundering masterpiece, the blast is not at listeners' expense.
-
Alternative PressAs stylishly remote, timelessly constructed and challengingly intelligent as you'd expect from artists like these. [May 2002, p.83]
-
While there's no question that this is rooted in the '80s (not always a good thing), when the two concentrate on songs, it sounds mighty good.
-
Hopefully, Buzzcocks, Magazine, and Luxuria fans will approach this material with open minds because, while it lacks the visceral punch of those bands' work, Buzzkunst proves that Shelley and Devoto still have a lot to offer their fans -- and each other.
-
Buzzkunst doesn't exactly offer any revelatory music, but it certainly is good, sometimes even great.
-
MixerThis record is neat and all, but Buzzkunst doesn't add to the collective legacy of Shelley and Devoto. [June 2002, p.88]
-
UncutThis is surprisingly, refreshingly, "modern" music. [Mar 2002, p.104]
-
There wouldn't be a problem at all if Buzzkunst wasn't such a maddeningly forgettable record.
-
While the pair probably had a lot of fun making the record, unfortunately, it isn't the most enjoyable listen.
