Not only does this stand out as one of Paradinas' best albums to date, but also as one of IDM's.

Music outside the pop/rock scope seems even more immune to aging, meaning that Challenge Me Foolish would have no problem passing as a 2018 release. Adding icing to the cake is the album's diversity.

The album is still a whole lot of fun, filled with the childlike sense of wonder common to much of Paradinas' best work. The late '90s were clearly a magical era for him, and Challenge Me Foolish is just as essential as any of his other releases of material from that period.

An album that's alluring in passing, but might not have you doubling back for a closer inspection.

As there's been no sign of new material from Paradinas in the past half-decade, Challenge Me Foolish is just interesting and familiar enough to keep µ-Ziq fans satiated, even if it is inferior to Royal Astronomy.

Breakbeats have become fashionable again, so a dusted-off track like “Undone” doesn’t sound quite as dated, with Paradinas playfully bouncing between tympani boom, percolator bip, and dramatic background strings. ... But “Bassbins” also shows that the more aggro and cartoonish take on it (which anticipated the rise of breakcore) remains out of fashion for good reason.
