  • Summary: Beseiged by legal problems (he was arrested in Chicago on child pornography-related charges) and rampant bootlegging of an earlier effort ('Loveland') that forced him to abandon that project, Kelly finally returns with a follow-up to 2000's 'TP-2.Com.'

Overlong, but Chocolate Factory is an impressively varied opus. [May 2003, p.100]

The singer's most mature work to date. [Apr 2003, p.173]
  3. Channeling greats from Gaye to Wonder, his stripped-down bangers bang harder, his ballads have more gospel bluster, and he sings with the desperation of a loveman who knows the cops are waiting at his bedroom door.
  4. It's largely a collection of the sort of steamy, silky slow jams at which Kelly has always excelled.
  5. Solid and pleasing, if somewhat predictable.

As ever, songs veer between the nigglingly infectious and cliched slush. [May 2003, p.109]
  7. Declawed and hesitant, it's hard to get excited about this piece of funkless confection.

This album is one of R. Kelly's best to date. I give him 2 thumbs up. Despite what goes on in his personal life the boy HAS talent.

I don't intentionally listen to R&B because the quality has gone and there is so much garbage. The combination of nice lyrics and I don't intentionally listen to R&B because the quality has gone and there is so much garbage. The combination of nice lyrics and booming music are what song lovers have been looking for. Some artists either miss one of the two but Kelly has it all together!!! I'm not even a fan, but when I overheard this c.d., I was taken off my feet that this awesome c.d. could even be a sucess after all of his negative publicity. Expand

This CD proves why R Kelly is THE greatest R&B artist ever lived. He masterfully recreates classic R&B along with his own original tracks and beats.
