Fans of Death Cab and the Postal Service might notice a similarity between Angelakos' and Ben Gibbard's vocal styles. The six song EP features light, airy synths grounded in subtle new wave and pop grooves.
  2. Defined as much by its lyrical prism and Angelakos' falsetto (more on that later) as its gooey textures, Chunk of Change walks the line between beat-driven, Hot Chip floor geeking and twee atmospherics.
  3. This beatific bpmfest amps expectation giddily high for the Boston five-piece’s debut proper, and really is the gift that keeps on giving.
  4. Despite Chunk of Change's flaws, Angelakos shows real promise as an innovative electronic-song weaver.
  5. The debut release from Boston’s Passion Pit is a warm and inviting collection of electro-pop that calls to mind popular acts like Postal Service while still blazing its own path.

This tantalizingly brief EP will please fans if The Blow, MGMT, and Hot Chip. [Fall 2008, p.88]
  7. Angelakos’s Hot Chip-meets-MGMT sound also works on I’ve Got Your Number. His distinctive vocals backfire only on the too-cutesy Cuddle Fuddle.
  8. Overall then, Chunk Of Change is several steps short of greatness, but the debut full-length (due later this year) should be worth a listen.
  9. Michael Angelakos, aka Passion Pit, brings us a temporary electro pop classic.

I honestly think it's nearly flawless. An excellent EP, erhaps one of the best, I've heard rivaling Of Montreal's Icons, Abstract Thee. FullI honestly think it's nearly flawless. An excellent EP, erhaps one of the best, I've heard rivaling Of Montreal's Icons, Abstract Thee. Full of pop-synth power, yet a tangible humanness, it provides a great listen. Nicely layered with several sounds that never appear to be too overbearing. Full Review »

All these songs are good as hell and are about how much the singer loves his girlfriend.

When it comes to Passion Pit, you can't please everybody. The lead singer has an unusual voice, and the music and lyrics are pretty weird. When it comes to Passion Pit, you can't please everybody. The lead singer has an unusual voice, and the music and lyrics are pretty weird. Some people love PP. I would say that I fall into the later group. I love the music and execution on Chunk of Change. The lyrics on this album are not great, but not bad either. They work well with the lead singer's voice and the music on this album. "Live to Tell the Tale" has a great, memorable chorus, making it one of the best PP songs. "Better Things" has great, high-energy music. Like many people, I love the errie, hypnotizing music on "Sleepyhead." Overall, CoC has great music and lyrics that compliment the album well. Chunk of Change may be PP's best work. Full Review »
