Ciara is the singer’s most realized full-length to date and one of this year’s most thrilling pop moments.

This is a pretty good album for fans of dance-pop or contemporary R&B.

Other than ["Where You Go"], Ciara is a crisp, clean album that doesn’t waste much motion.

Though at times she panders to the club a bit much, and doesn’t provide quite the depth that is expected of a self-titled album and an artist on her fifth go around, Ciara is filled with a fun batch of songs.

[Ciara sounds] blissfully triumphant and uncomplicated on a record from start to finish.

Ciara feels slightly (though only slightly) weaker when she swims against the current of her own charm and tries for “raw.”

This one is way, way, way better [than her last album], not least thanks to a quaint little ditty called "Body Party."

Her fifth, is one of the most convincing R&B albums of the year, even if it does a very thin job of being convincing about Ciara herself.

    Content? Sure. Complacent? Not yet.

As a collection of potential singles from an artist who should have more #1's, it's a modest, calculated effort.

Since her 2004 smash, “Goodies,” Ciara has had trouble finding the right commercial song and it appears she’s still searching.

However good the other tracks are here, it's her indomitable track with Nicki Minaj, I'm Out, that powers this album.

The result isn't a muddled mess but another lean and focused set, despite the involvement of several writers and producers.

Though Ciara is a perfectly competent album, it’s the least interesting one she could have made given the winning hand she was dealt, and as she should know by now, winning hands only come around so often.

Ciara has quietly built up a formidable discography, and this eponymous set maintains the high quality.

Songs like "Body Party", "I'm Out", "DUI", "Keep on Lookin" and "Where You Go" represent her ghetto origins and dance-pop songs like "Overdose" and "Livin' It Up" makes me feel so good. Full Review »

Her vocals work best on more sexy records ("Body Party" "DUI" and "Read My Lips" for example) but the production carries her on clunker records like "Super Turnt Up." Aside from "Where You Go" every song has great replay value, a necessity given how short the album's actual playtime is. Full Review »
