    Those Loveless comparisons are way off the mark. I felt duped by such positive reviews when I finally heard the record. I think the MBV comparisons were thrown out there a little too hastily.

    The fact that so many reviewers have been quick to call this a great record is beyond me. One went so far as to say that it could stand next to Loveless and in the same review scrutinized Loveless. In a year noone will give a shit about Asobi Seksu and in 20 years people will still listen to Loveless, because it is a classic. Asobi Seksu is a really really terrible indie pop band that doesn't know how to use distortion pedals except in the same rote, boring way that so many others have before them. Comparing them to Lush might be a far more accurate description, at least Lush had the excuse of existing at a time when MBV were even more influential on the bands in the same scene. At least they felt the initial spark of greatness with those bands like Slowdive and Ride. Asobi Seksu are an indie pop band NOT shoegaze. The MBV comparisons are inaccurate. This band sounds like the Pixies with a really bad pop singer for a vocalist.… Expand

    you can't hate something this fun and beautiful unless you hate all things pop. not really new ground but it's put together in a way even better musicians can't. a pleasing party record.

    I'm not sure how anybody could find any major problems with this album - to my ears, it's nothing short of a masterpiece. I'll agree that the MBV comparisons are used a little too liberally, but that's not necessarily a bad thing - it just means that Asobi Seksu stands on their own two feet musically. This is really supreme, lovely, shoegazey indie pop, and a tremendous improvement over the band's last album. Plus bonus points for the gorgeous cover art - it's in a BRIGHT neon orange jewel case!… Expand

    The first masterpiece of 2006 - a stunning beautiful record. "Citrus" sends you off into a soothing stratosphere where problems dissolve like lemon drops. It's that sweet.

    Who cares whether or not its shoegaze. It's really really good. Just because you don't fit it into the same genre as some critics doesn't mean you should let that affect your score.

    I've listened to over 500 albums released this year already (yes, I have no life), and this album is in the top 3 alongside The Appleseed Cast's Peregrine and The Most Serene Republic's Phages. All magical albums. Long live good music.

    it's not perfect...but it's damn close. anyone that expected to hear "loveless" because they got compared to MBV is frankly foolish. they are not MBV and they are not really trying to be anymore....there are elements of Radiohead, Blone Redhead, YYYs, and Broken Social Scene here. This is a band that will only continue to evolve, and barring internal conflict, they will probably release a huge album in two years or so. And I don't mean huge in the way that Madonna is huge, I mean huge in the way that Pavement was, which is to say devastatingly good.… Expand

    The first 4 (real) songs on this album are enough by themselves to put this on the best of list. Saw them play last night. Great live, and what a hotty their singer is.

    It seems to me that a lot of people don't like the record because some people compared it to loveless. I'm not even going to compare it to loveless because I think this album is so good it can stand as a brilliant album all by itself. Every song on this album is brilliant, it's true shoegaze pop joy.

    Nearly everything about Citrus is so accomplished, refined, and downright transcendent that it could very well stand alongside Loveless as a modernized shoegaze staple.

    Where Asobi Seksu's first album seemed rushed, a little too experimental, and at times too loud, Citrus brings the right amount of noise, swirling affects, and sound balance.
