  • Summary: Anyone disappointed by the last Daft Punk album might enjoy this funky, largely instrumental second album for the New York duo.

  2. Negative: 0 out of 13
  1. Outwardly it's a fun album, triumphant and full of majestic refrains and riffs... but there's still something in it,... that makes it somehow all very sad.

Achieves a slinky grandeur surpassing that of its terrific debut. [Sep 2006, p.75]
  3. While sometimes Classics sees the group straying from their conceptual center, it’s never without Ratatat’s unmistakable identity and indelible gentle humor.
  4. Magnet

    It's very Art Of Noise circa 1991. [#73, p.104]
  5. There is nothing to dislike about Classics, but I get the feeling they're holding back.
  6. Classics can testify just like Ratatat (2004) did, and there’s no shirking of moral duty to melody, but the “growth” between the two albums leaves the sophomore effort a bit of a chore.
  7. Blender

This time they've vacuumed all the loose dirt out of the silicon chamber and left a low-funk environment. [Nov 2006, p.154]

What I love about Classics is (like Ratatat's s/t album) how I have a different favorite track everytime I listen to it. To me, this is What I love about Classics is (like Ratatat's s/t album) how I have a different favorite track everytime I listen to it. To me, this is a perfect follow-up album; retaining the duo signature sound, but diversifying it and exploring new territory, all the while remaining catchy and satisfying. Expand

Pitchfork is being too hard on this one. This album offers a lot of great songs, like Loud Pipes and Wildcat.
Definitely an 8. Not a nine,

The most luscious soundtrack for the to-be-made indie film.
