  1. Communion is easily the most consistent yet visionary and expansive recording Soundtrack have released yet, and proves beyond the shadow of a doubt, they are, even without mass acceptance, an impressively grand rock band.
  2. 80
It's a minor miracle that these Swedish vets' 24-song sixth album clocks in at 94 filler-free minutes, stuffed with late-'60s guitar romps ranging from slow-burn psychedelia to up-tempo struts, and more deliberate mood pieces.
  3. TSOOL have made a double album that isn’t a burden, but rather something which is genuinely fun to get lost inside and attempt to unravel.
  4. Mojo

Communion clearly packs a unique set of quirks, diversions and comedowns. [Sep 2009, p.102]
  5. The sheer heft of Communion makes it hard to absorb the songs individually while discouraging the casual spins necessary to embed them in your skull. But almost every song sounds terrific in the moment.
  6. Under The Radar

While there's plenty of great songs on Communion, it also feels overstuffed. [Winter 2009, p.74]
  7. Filter
    66
Most tracks feel as if they'd fit neatly onto classics from The Who, The Kinks and even The Band, but none of the Swedes' songs stand out too far from behind their influences. [Winter 2009, p.106]
  8. As you might have guessed, nobody but TSOOL completists (and Mojo subscribers) needs all this stuff. Yet within Communion's overload lurk a handful of neo-Nuggets nuggets.
  9. The band has easily come up with its best set of songs since its sort-of 2001 breakthrough "Behind the Music." If not every track on the set is a winner, neither are there any outright stinkers.

Performing the songs live and witnessing them was really quite exhilarating at the Troubadour.True, the album, per se, may be only worth a 9, but that live performance, where I had to keep Ebbot from falling on my wife and daughter, makes it worth +1. An excellent album, which eclipses 'Origin Vol 1' overall, despite some 'gems' on the earlier offering. I would rank An excellent album, which eclipses 'Origin Vol 1' overall, despite some 'gems' on the earlier offering. I would rank 'Communion' just behind 'A Present From The Past', which really is a surprise package of previously unreleased treasures. Admittedly, there is a lot of material on 'Communion', which may not fit neatly into every reviewer's box. For me though, it is a bonus because TSOOL's album output has been quite modest. Mind you, they have always been generous with the amount of material that is offered, once the release finally materialises. Keep up the good work boys. You deserve greater recognition. Full Review »

On record, they're pros with a distinctive sound. As a live act, they have the ability to conquer any venue. To fully understand the grandeur of this band, one MUST see them perform live. A complete and religious experience with the harmful fanaticism left out. Hits you like a freight train to the chest. Full Review »
