Easily the best Urban record this year: If you like tight, deep lyrics or innovative bumpin' beats and jams then this record has it all! I disagree with the Rolling Stone critic about, "this is the record Prince keeps trying to make" but it has the same incredible feel of Sign Of The Times without sounding anything like Prince.

A near perfect record that sounds like a resurrection of late night basement ghetto parties, activism and sexual tension... Finally an apologitic and intelligent response to the current state of 'how we is.' Infectious.

Such sweet soulful sounds from this angry, angry woman. Honestly, the mix and lyrical content, not ot mention the grooves on this album, are sensational. One of the best albums I have picked up in the last 10 years. Try it and taste it. Mmmmmmm

Call it urban ethereal, grounded in gritty raps and coiled funk rhythms, bolstered by jazz keyboards, soaring vocals, and synthesizers.

Long on rhetoric, short on melodic structure, it's hard going. [Dec 2002, p.150]
  3. Powerful, beautiful, sensual and activist, this is the record Prince keeps trying to make.
