  • Summary: This full-length debut for the Glasgow indie-rock trio (who are not actually brothers, despite adopting the same last name) includes the song "Flathead," which can be heard soundtracking a recent iPod commercial.

  1. Their punchy choruses and propulsive garage riffs are as addictive as those of 2006 sensations Arctic Monkeys. [16 Mar 2007, p.69]
  2. Costello Music crackles from top to bottom with nervous energy, confident songwriting, and hopeless confusion over girls, girls, girls.
  3. 80
The record comes on like a sweaty, amphetamine-fuelled rehearsal room bash that went extraordinarily well. [Oct 2006, p.102]
  4. Parochial pop somewhere between Supergrass and the Arctic Monkeys.
  5. Fans might be better off putting "Flathead" on a homemade mix-tape than following the rest of Costello Music.
  6. Full of borrowed ideas put together in a not unpleasant or unoriginal way, their sound is still too close to the myriad other wannabes trailing in The Libertines' and Razorlight's wake. [Oct 2006, p.119]
  7. The effect diminishes with each spin.

Amazing. A truly worthy of 10/10 album. A MUST-HAVE in every indie collection. With each song worth a listen, it is a great pity that they only managed to give 2 brilliant albums before splitting, even if that split has been classed as "Temporary" by the boys themselves. It is not often an album comes along with which i enjoy every song, and this album had many of its songs in my iTunes top 25 most played playlist, including "Flathead", from the old iPod advert, which topped my list with about 120 listens. Until i had to reinstall my computer, setting the play count back to 0 again.
10/10. Why? a Truly essential album that everyone should have the pleasure of listening to. There is a song for everyone on this masterpiece.

A highly enjoyable album. Fast-paced, fun, lots of energy and bawdy lyrics. Can understand the detractors but never fail get excited when listening to this album. Unfortunate that Chelsea Dagger has become synonymous with football chanting imbeciles but never mind. Expand

many catchy songs that are stuck in my head even to this day. up to a point the songs may blend together, especially when playing the entire album at once. strong garage rock sensibility. might have been better if balanced with soft dynamics, but that may have detracted from the purposeful energy of this release. There are only two or three songs on here I didn't like a lot. There's about 4 tracks I absolutely adore. I love their style. The melodies are catchy as hell. My favorite songs are "Flathead", "For The Girl", "Got Ma Nuts From A Hippy", and "Chelsea Dagger". I'd definitely give this album a shot! Expand

Although many songs die down with repeat listens, it's one of the few albums I can sit down and listen to all the way through. Each song on this album is fantastic. The entire thing is energetic, catchy, and will be sure to have you singing along. It's almost too much to handle in one sitting. Expand

This is an ok record. On first listen it sounds great but you get tired of it pretty quickly. There are definitely some good tracks on it but too much of it is recycled indie music by numbers. Expand

It may be my taste of music, but this band annoys me horribly, and as much as I'd like to enjoy their music, I can't bring myself to do it. It's mainly the vocals that turn me off from this album, but it also seems like they don't care to perfect their music, and that they want put out an album of unrefined crap. Expand
