Crocodiles have never been content to stick to one sound and ride it into the ground; they always seem to be searching for the perfect way to transmit their brand of noise and pop. They just might have found it here.

A tastefully echo-bathed, psychocandy-flavored production job by the Raveonetts' Sune Rose Wagner, and you've got a soaring and psychedelic dream-pop stunner that will leave you wondering how being bummed can feel so inanely good. [Sep 2013, p.88]

San Diego’s Crocodiles have absolutely nailed album number four.

For what it is--the latest installment in a tradition of sad dudes trying to numb their pain with upbeat pop--it does its job well.

Crimes of Passion is playful, real, genuine, and just a bit naughty.

There are enough unexpected moments--a nice peppering of saxophone, the gospel choir on "I Like It In the Dark" and the velvety hum of closing ballad "Un Chant D'Amour--to distinguish this as the best album yet by these sunglasses-at-night-wearing rockers.

Crimes Of Passion finds Crocodiles in scintillating form and is full of the kind of carefree rock that should make them more popular than they are.

An album of washed out, happy-sad, semi-psychedelic sounds that glower as much as they gleam, it’s perfect for those 3am mornings when you’re full of alcohol and regret.

Despite being nothing original, Crimes of Passion comes off a good rehashing of the genre, making you rethink what Jesus and The Mary Chain's Just Like Honey really meant.

The new record basks in Endless Flowers' sunny afterglow, but the songs here are brasher, nervier, and a lot more fun.

While the album is the closest Crocodiles have come to achieving their own unique brand of tuneful clamor, there's still a sense that they can't quite move away from the blueprint of the new-wave artists that inspired them.

Crimes of Passion is a stellar fourth effort and may prove to be the defining record in what surely will be a long career ahead for the Crocodiles.

Overseen by Sune Rose Wagner of The Raveonettes, all the songs are so instant that it makes the album something of an onslaught on the senses - multiple listens will be needed for clear favourites to reveal themselves in a slow strip tease.

Without a doubt, this is their strongest and most cohesive collection of tracks to date.

On tracks like Gimme Some Annihilation, Cockroach, and I Like it in the Dark, it shows a punk/ no wave influence. Tracks like She Splits Me Up and Marquis de Sade oddly enough show doo wop tracings. Crocodiles are a band with a breathe of fresh air and this album proves my statement. Full Review »

They do nothing new but they do it well, and here that level is consistently high, it's an album best utilised if you're coming home from a party late at night but still hanging around with close friends, stick this on to keep it all alive. It harks back to late 80's early 90's noise pop and shoegaze but unlike previous albums does not feel derivative. Full Review »

Crimes of Passion is a strong record the whole way through with the second half of the album in particular standing out.

Where previously the band seemed to have taken a feckless approach to recording their albums there is a certain confidence and swagger on display here and it works very well. Me and My Machine Gun is a standout track for me.

It's disappointing to see that one bad critic review has skewed the metascore on here and it's
opened my eyes a bit as to how inaccurate metacritic can be as a guide sometimes.
