Crocodiles seemed to always have the potential in them to make a damn good record and with Crimes of Passion they have finally met that potential. Crimes of Passion is a strong record the whole way through with the second half of the album in particular standing out.

Where previously the band seemed to have taken a feckless approach to recording their albums there is a certain confidence and swagger on display here and it works very well. Me and My Machine Gun is a standout track for me.

It's disappointing to see that one bad critic review has skewed the metascore on here and it's
opened my eyes a bit as to how inaccurate metacritic can be as a guide sometimes.

Crimes of Passion is Crocodiles' best album yet by a distance. They do nothing new but they do it well, and here that level is consistently high, it's an album best utilised if you're coming home from a party late at night but still hanging around with close friends, stick this on to keep it all alive. It harks back to late 80's early 90's noise pop and shoegaze but unlike previous albumsCrimes of Passion is Crocodiles' best album yet by a distance. This Crocodiles album really has a wide variety of styles. On tracks like Gimme Some Annihilation, Cockroach, and I Like it in the Dark, it shows a punk/ no wave influence. Tracks like She Splits Me Up and Marquis de Sade oddly enough show doo wop tracings. Crocodiles are a band with a breathe of fresh air and this album proves my statement.

The album is diverting, pleasant, and completely undemanding; it’s the perfect soundtrack to a sunny afternoon or a road trip down the highway.

While the album is the closest Crocodiles have come to achieving their own unique brand of tuneful clamor, there's still a sense that they can't quite move away from the blueprint of the new-wave artists that inspired them.

Like the previous three Crocodile outputs, Crimes of Passion is forgettable like a party might be. Some may get sick of it and leave early, and others may find the album similar to a one night stand who says all the right things.
