I like Beyonce. She's gorgeous, talented and appears to be pretty grounded. But upon the release of her debut solo disc Dangerously In Love (and amidst the critical acclaim it garnered) I decided to get the album--boy, did it disappoint! The first handful of tracks (especially the international horn-blarin' smash single "Crazy In Love") sounded brilliant, everything I expected the ex-Destiny's Child leader to produce as a solo artist. But halfway through and this shockingly long record starts getting bland--it's not that they're not credible, respectable songs, it's just that they're bland and Dangerously gets a bit dangerously close to being too ballad-influenced. Beyonce's stellar and oft-fluid singing skills certainly help listeners get through the tepid, boring material. Decent, credible and definitely a respectable attempt, but nothing brilliant--get B'Day instead if possible. Expand

The album sucked to me. I can tolerate her alittle and thought that her album would be worth listening too but when i sat down and listened to it was very disappointed. I listen to two and only two songs, the title track with Jay-Z and the song me myself and I. There is just too much oooh and ahhhing on the tracks to hear her talent.

It was with great trepidation that I approached ths cd after reading numerous reviews slagging it but, surprise, it's a great cd. Beyonce shows off her flair for stylish ballads such as 'Be with you', 'Yes', and 'Speechless', the latter with it's grand vocal finale. Of course the brilliant summery 'Crazy in love', 'That's what you like', 'Naughty girl', etc are also stand outs. She took a turn totally unexpected by the public who, I think, were expecting lots of uptempo cuts. Fab cd whose brilliance time will reveal. Expand

Beyonce is the business and so is her CD. With her beauty, voice, and overall style she is simply untoppable. Many hate on her, but her can replace her? She has too much to offer and not many artists can bring that much to the table. Not to mention her talent is versatile, so she easily able to appeal to almost any audience.

Very rarely will I pop in a new CD, listen to it all the way through, AND love all the songs. This debut Cd from Beyonce moves me. I could not disagree more with the critics who give negative reviews. Not only her voice gives the record it's appeal, but the songs to me are unique, there is not a somg out there that sounds like this CD at this time. Congratulations Beyonce, I'm proud of you. Expand

To me the CD isn't good. She needs to stay in a group. There are only 4 songs that are good. The two with Jay-z,the one with Missy, and Dangerously in love it self and that came from Survivor. She can sing but when she was with the group it was better.

NOT WORTH THE HYPE! All the songs are slow, not fun. I feel like the colaborative efforts by Big Boi, Sean Paul, and Missy are wasted. They could have done a lot more. The only good song is the star track with Jay-Z.

I gave it a 2 because of the 2 talents on the CD - Jay Z and Sean Paul. C'mon Beyonce you look like a hoocie-fied video Hoe prancing around Jigga. Get back with your group - they help you with class. Kelly is the sweetest, and Michelle is following her lord to the end, GOOD GIRL - heard she was in Guyana recently - Big Up Gt Massive.

she has a couple of songs that could make this album another multiplatnum success, but she has not the sense the make those songs singles. She is just doing the same old vocal tricks. I really feel she sucks as a songwriter. No way is this album going to come close to the last two destiny's child album, but what do I know, I really felt the survivor album sucked.

This is one of the best R&B albums ever. I'm not saying this because I am Ms. Knowles biggest fan, but because she is an exceptional writer, singer, actress, and producer. For this to be Beyonce's first solo debut, she delivers very thorough. This album has an element that would make any album successful and that is love. Beyonce's sings about what everybody experiences, has experienced, or wants to experience. Regardless of your opinion on her or this cd, one thing cannot be denied and that is her beautiful, captivating. This album left me in one word......."Speechless". I love you Beyonce, forever!!!!!!!! Time will prove how good this album will be. It is innovative especially in the field of RnB. It moves pass the rap + catchy chorus harmony. Beyonce shows how talented she is and her wide influences. It is given that some tracks are not as strong as others but are in no way can be considered as "fillers". In my opinion they are there to display Beyonce's broad spectrum. The album seems to have a consistent theme as well. Lastley, she at least co-wrote/produced every single track on the album. Amazing for a 21 yo. Expand

The album is off thed hook! The sign of a good album is that you can listen to it straight through. Beyonce you did it! She has effortless talent and really knows hows to perform. She gives her audiences their monies worth. Unfortunately, there are those that can't respect individual talent without comparing the person to someone else. That's a given, we're all guilty of that but Beyonce is 21. She writes her own music, can actually sing, dance and has stage prescence and that's refreshing, truly expressive and impressive. Comparing her to Whitney and Mariah, although good comparisons, is like apples and oranges. When they were her age they sang studio/label songs. Their images were created and they were what the label wanted them to be...Beyonce is Beyonce -- pure southern hospitality. She will be (and is) the Aretha, Chaka, Diana, Whitney, Mariah of her generation. Expand

Beyoce's writing and producing skills do shine on this project. The soulful ballads and midtempo tracks struck me as the strongest. I must admit baby boy was my favorite track for a few weeks, although it lacked subtance. The one thing that bothered me was toward the end, all that i love you i love you i love you over and over was kind of sickening. she should have just called jay and told him instead of making us suffer through it. Besides that, it's a good listen! Expand

Ugh. Boring, repetitive, and trite. Good vocal range and good looks do not a good singer make. I also love how Metacritic allows posters like Vicky g. below to insult people (maybe all the misspellings made it go through the profanity filter, eh?) if they disagree with her narrow point of view. Today was the first time I was faced with a diction in what CD I should buy, because both Michelle Branch?s album Hotel Paper and Beyonce?s album was coming out today, and with the prices of cd?s so high and with me not having a job I had to choose. But how can I choose between two vary different albums that have nothing in common but gust stars on there album but even that was totally different (Sheryl Crow on one and Missy on the other). So I did what any logical person would do, I flipped a coin and sure enough I ended up buying Beyonce?s. But let me tell you that after listing to the album I was not disappointed. The album goes far beyond what Kelly?s solo effort could achieve it even put Justine?s solo album to shame. Beyonce showed that she could do it all on this album. And her voice has never sounded so beautiful and powerful. She showed that you don?t need to exasperate every note to the point were it takes you 5 min. to say one word, and still achieve the same goal that Christina so desperately tries to show that she can sing with the best of them. (Cristina take note). The album really surprised me because it was more soulful than what I thought it would be from haring the first single. From start to finish this album does not disappoint so I recommend it highly. Expand

WOW! What a solo album! Combining the best elements of rap, hip-hop and r & b, Miss Knowles mixes it up with the hottest acts (Sean Paul, Big Boi and Sleepy Brown, Jay-Z, Missy Elliott) and ace production (including some incredible production on tracks 2, 3 and 6 from Scott Storch, responsible for the best bits of Christina Aguleria's "Stripped"). The first four songs on this album are worth the price of admission alone... do NOT miss out on this one! Expand

I give it two because of the appearance of two SUPERSTARS - Sean Paul and Jay Z...don't mean to hate on Missy, but I can't honestly put three in the rating, it'll hurt my heart. Beyonce you absolutely, positively need your group or some banging collab.s. You are horrible by yourself - this is ridiculous. You need to stop acting diva-like - U ain't. And the press need to stop swelling her head, this cd can't hold its own, if honest people would admit it. I am so perturbed at the Grammy's for that travesty - Beyonce beat out R. Kelly and Ashanti - SHAME ON THE GRAMMYS, they should apologise to the music-loving public. Like JayZ said - ur sh&t is garbage... I know someone out there is listening with good ears though, and they (Bless their soul) put a stop to Beyonce releasing a second single, and pushed for a Destiny's Child album, Lord know I need to hear that blessed voice of Michelle, and the true lead singer Kelly shine. The saying goes PRIDE goeth before a FALL...so I encourage you Beyonce - PRIDE PRIDE PRIDE, GO GO GO!!! Expand

I think... my bad... I KNOW that Beyonce is without a doubt the queen of R&B right now and she makes those otha girls like Alicia Keys and Ashanti who are famous but can't sing worth a d$mn look dumb as h$ll! She has total control over here voice and she very beautiful. How many people do you know are as good looking as she is and can sing as good as she can. She is the total package!

This cd is off the chains. Beyonce's voice is very pure and Beautiful, and so is she. People need to stop hatin her; she deserves all the sucsess, she writes all her own songs. Listen to speechless, and you really here her vocal ability. People need to stop comparing her to Ashanti, there voices are totally different. Keep doin yo thang beyonce and brush those hatas off.

One of Beyonce's best work yet. It was the perfect introduction to the solo Beyonce. It has solidified her as the superstar we know today. Packed with dance hits and emotional love ballads, you won't be bored. Favorite tracks: Baby Boy, Crazy In Love, Dangerously In Love, That's How You Like It, and Naughty Girl.

This album was very eccentric. It was both R&B and pop, and hip-hop. It seems as if Beyonce was just recording every song that sounded good to her, hoping that it would sound good to others as well (which it does), but it left out the honesty that should be found in music especially with vocal talent like hers. At moments like "Me, Myself, and I" and "Daddy" you can literally fell what she feels, and at other points like "Hip Hop Star" you wonder what she is doing. Overall it was a strong debut release, it show promise for who Beyonce will become as an artist, vocalist, and overall as a human being. Expand

I'm surprised by the mixed and negative views this album received. With that being said this album is underrated and in my opinion one of the better first albums I've heard. Imma start with the cons of this album: 1. the songs were reinvented so instead of Beyonce making this an all new album she re made some songs, gave them a beyonce twist and perfected them. That's really all the cons to me. This album was good. Songs like "speechless" "yes" "be with you" and "signs" are classics to me. Her voice is mainly soft on the album and it compliments well. Overall the album is good, if you were looking for her to use all Beyonce created material then the album was not for you. Expand

None of beyonces albums have much depth to them but this one seems to be the most complete. Hits like "Baby Boy" "Naughty Girl" and "Crazy In Love" make a solid opening to the mediocre rest of the album. Overall not bad but still teases us into more as Beyonce often does with her albums. Best she has to offer in her discography.
