With lyrics that can make you laugh out loud and beats that reach the feet, Barnes has managed a careful balance between sheer absurdity and moments of genius.

New listeners may not find this a better entry point than any particular album, but casual fans who have enjoyed the last four releases from the band should greet this as a welcome surprise.

This may be a directionless paella of genres and styles, but the band is assured and accomplished enough to pull each track off with aplomb.

The record would be better served to ditch a majority of its so-so offerings and stick to its successes--those that show Barnes as willing to channel his creativity into a focused direction.

While Daughter of Cloud houses a number of Barnes' most flamboyantly weird musical ideas, they're also frequently some of his hollowest.

Daughter of Cloud accurately depicts an artist who has pushed his artistic license to its very limit. It also makes a convincing argument for the virtue of accepting some of those pushed-aside limitations.

Unfortunately, this rarities compilation focuses on OM's 2008-until-now phase, and it grates heavily.
