The simple fact is that Daydreams & Nightmares isn't just a joyous reinvention, or coming of age for Those Dancing Days, or even one the best albums of the year--which it certainly is--but, like any good dream, it comes when you least expect it, born out of your purest desires, and haunts you for those dancing days to come.

Their sound brilliantly pays homage equally to the sparkling melodies of C86 and the lunk-headed bounce of punk rock. [Apr 2011, p.110]

With great pop hooks a-plenty, Daydreams And Nightmares amply demonstrates that growing up doesn't always have to be boring.

On the first few listens, the album is less immediate than the debut, but patience reveals it to be richer, more eclectic and far more satisfying.

By letting their heads float off into the clouds and planting their brogues firmly on the ground, Those Dancing Days have created an album of fizzing indie-pop to charm both the starry-eyed teen and the world-weary indie connoisseur.

Though there are also moments when TDD's seemingly random amalgam of influences and styles doesn't quite work, Fuckarias rocks like a bastard and frontwoman Linnea Jonsson has all the poise and tone required of a top-notch pop singer. [Apr 2011, p.97]

If TDD's Cure obsession at times gets the better of them, their buoyancy and drive will still fill floors. [Apr 2011, p.95]

Fuckarias is glorious, a bubblegum-punk screech driven by hyperventilating drums, sparking bristling guitars off Linnea Jonsson's incandescent vocal. But how slick and anodyne the rest of the album sounds beside it.

Daydreams & Nightmares may be pleasant enough for an afternoon diversion, but it's essentially nondescript, generic indie-pop, of which no amount of charisma from Jonsson can possibly mask.
