It is the kind of record that might drift by unassumingly lest you lend it a careful ear, but really: the second you do, it rewards unequivocally.
  2. A beautifully hazy indie pop record, perfectly suited to hot summer days.

A fine batch of bittersweet pop songs that are nearly impossible to ignore.

The intelligent songcraft on Days is remarkably strong and with enough luster to continue, here's to hoping the desire never runs dry for Real Estate.

It feels both classic and surprisingly new; this is Real Estate, and this is all Real Estate will ever be.

That's Real Estate. The composition is flawless, but the feel is mellow and meandering, subdued and slight.

The album's 10 songs manage to both hold up well individually and amount to more than the sum of their parts, and it's an album capable of entrancing its audience within a calm mindset free from unnecessary ties to genre-snobbery.

This is a great pop-rock album because it doesn't feel the need to be anything else.

This relentlessly positive outlook may not suit those searching for a bit more angst in their pop music, but it suits Real Estate just fine.

This New Jersey quartet is one well-oiled muscle, and they flex it to hypnotic effect for 40-plus minutes.

An affable shrug of an album, it's fine, but that's not necessarily OK.

In just two very natural albums, the dudes from Ridgewood, New Jersey, have managed to ensconce the indie ethos better than anyone has in quite a while, and the time of their season is right now.

Real Estate set itself up to falter by comparison, but Days pulls off the impressive feat of earning that company [of Beach Boys' Today, the Byrds' Notorious Byrd Brothers, and The Shins' Oh, Inverted World].

Real Estate have such a knack for classic-sounding melody that every song quickly engages on a musical gut level.

The sound might be crisper, but ultimately on Days, the song remains the same.

On this album Real Estate has lifted its sound out of the haze and, by extension, out of the pool of its peers.

Overall, though, Days is a great sophomore album and solid evidence that Real Estate is growing and ready to settle in for the long haul.

Two years, lots of touring, and a wad of cash from Domino Records later and the New Jersey four-piece have shaken off the sun-flecked dust of that haphazard genre to reveal a clean and canny record.

Real Estate's gift is that they either don't overthink their melodies or they can't, and the simplicity contrasts with their steady, dreamy atmospherics: instant nostalgia for an angst-free generation.

While they haven't really changed up their formula on this second LP, they have gotten exponentially better at brewing it up. [#82, p.59]

More than a specific era, Real Estate conjure a sense of place and experience as vividly as any US indie film of the past five years. [Nov 2011, p.97]

So, I had lowered expectations for "Days" and I think that was a blessing because this album has slowly grown on me. I love how the guitars sound on this album. "Out of Tune" is the highlight here, but nearly every song is a winner. The record has a late 80's college rock vibe and reminds me a lot of the Go-Betweens. Good stuff! Full Review »

Album number has more vocals and lyrics than their debut and is all the better for it. This album is an overall mood I could get into rather than a set of standout songs I can rave about. That said, there are a few highlight, "It's Real" being one and "Green Aisles" is a trip in itself but the whole album is a lesson in sitting back with your substance of choice and leaving the music wash over you. My favourite Real Estate record. Full Review »
