  1. There is a sense of urgency and maturity here that few in the genre will be able to replicate. So forget the throne, The Devil Wears Prada doesn't need it to prove that they've released the best metalcore album of the year.

There are dramatic dynamic shifts and a defter blend of melody and muscle, making this by far the best album the Ohio outfit have yet produced. [10 Sep 2011, p.51]

While modern metalcore acts are a dime a dozen now, the fourth full-length from the Devil Wears Prada should lay waste to any usurpers attempting to seize their rightful crown. [Oct 2011, p.107]

For the Devil Wears Prada's fourth album, Dead Throne, the Christian metalcore six-piece is at its most technical and most brutal.

The songs here have every frequency not only covered but cranked to 11. That's a plus when the writing is equally heroic, as with "My Questions," "Born to Lose," or the stunning "Holdfast," but when the songs don't measure up melodically or thematically, as with the overly ornate "R.I.T.," the sonic heft only underscores the failings

Christians The Devil Wears Prada are in possession of the worst name is metalcore, yet their music is punishing. [Oct 2011, p.120]

Dead Throne is outstanding. Now I'm not saying that merely based on the fact that The Devil Wears Prada is my favorite band..... Musically the album is awesome from track 1 til the end. They have set a new bar for metalcore and and everyone else in the genre will be reaching for that bar for a long time. Prada seems to out do themselves with every album and this takes them another step in that direction. If you listen to metal/hardcore, you need to give this album a listen. For some it may a take a couple listens to appreciate, but believe me, it is AMAZING! Full Review »
  2. It's a drift from the funner, more creative Zombie EP, and despite the extra punk-esque shouts and industrial sound effects, Dead Throne is more on the generic side of metalcore and refuses to give The Devil Wears Prada any reason to reach outside of their primary fan base. However, that's not saying the album's a bad thing, which it definitely isn't. By distancing themselves from the style and focusing more on the substance of the post-hardcore genre, the band can be taken more seriously. And Hranica's vocals have progressively improved as well, become one of the most innovative unclean vocalists in the 2000s. Full Review »
  3. While Dead Throne is certainly more mature and wiser than the band's previous material, Dead Throne succumbs to a far more generic and underwhelming sound that fails to reach outside of their primary fan base, despite its fusion of straightforward metalcore, industrial-influenced sound effects and synthesizers, and 1990's punk-esque shouts.
