  • Summary: The second release for the Canadian rock duo of Benjamin Nelson and Paul Saulnier was produced by Matt Rogalsky and inspired by dreams Saulnier had while on tour.

By album-ender "First Contact" the pair have accumulated enough momentum that they sound ready to bust out of Saulnier's self-conscious mind and take the rest of the world on, one graceful guitar burst at a time.

Death Deams almost faultlessly conveys the volatility and incomprehensibility of their particular genius. There isn't even one clunker in here, which is a lot to say in a year that's already seen another rock renaissance.

There's an underrated vulnerability that's been exposed here, which makes for a valuable listen.

Would be great to remove the second Pitchfork review from this total - it's listed here twice!

Montreal Mirror also gives the album 9/10:
