It's a wonder why a few of these cuts didn't pop up before this, but as a collection of outtakes, they hold together better than some of the band's proper albums.

Rivers Cuomo & co rejuvenate some long lost gems.

Collecting from 10 years of album offcuts, Death To False Metal will be a treasure chest for the disenchanted. [Jan 2011, p.106]

Ultimately, this collection is a series of album nearly-rans. This shouldn't undermine the songs, but it should reiterate how strong Weezer's records actually are (for the large part).

In its essence, Death To False Metal is competently put together, and adequately celebratory in its own way (as the album title might suggest), but there is very little to latch on to as far as a reason for existence.

In execution, though, Death To False Metal is frustratingly hit-or-miss.

As a clearinghouse for an increasingly prolific band, False Metal isn't particularly generous. In fact, judging from its wacky title/cover combo, 10-song tracklist, and overall quality, it dubiously achieves Cuomo's stated goal of creating the logical follow-up to Hurley.

I find it funny how much due Pinkerton is finally getting with its recent re-release since I swear I was the only person digging on it when it first came out. "Pink Triangle" is still one of my favorites.

I've stuck with Weezer and enjoyed most of their albums, but they lost my attention when the overrated Rick Rubin came into play. Make Believe is still their worst album and I believe has contributed to them losing their edge. Everything that has come out since then has been subpar Weezer. That is why I was interested in Death to False Metal. It is their final CD on Geffen/DGC/Interscope and encompasses a bunch of songs that never made the cut on their other albums. So, by definition, they should be considered lower quality Weezer stuff, but surprisingly, many are enjoyable.

The ones I like are, "Trampoline," recorded in 1998, "The Odd Couple" and "Autopilot" were recorded with Rick Rubin in 2008. Their version of "Un-break My Heart" is wonderful. They always find a knack for covering songs I love. For any true Weezer fan, while there is nothing ground-breaking on Death to False Metal, I get just as excited about unearthed Weezer as I do with unvaulted Prince music.

An album fans have been waiting so many years to hear in its entirety.

The lyrics are uninspired and it is easy to see why a lot of these songs didn't make it on to their respective albums, all in all, for me, someone who has been a Weezer fan for many years, it was somewhat of a let-down.

The Toni Braxton cover is great, felt like old Weezer.
