A great record. The slower, more folky numbers are off-set by some really nice bouant pop songs. Contrary to what the stooge from musicOHM.com says the vocals are relaxed and borderline romantic. The backing bad is strong and understated. Powerful at times. The comparisons to Scott Walker, Bill Callahan, and David Berman are right on. A greatly talented new songwriter.

  1. Elkington has crafted an uplifting, despondent, and always atmospheric collection of elegant indie rock that never takes itself too seriously.
  2. It's not all bad, but there's no getting away from the fact the main problem with this lifeless debut is Elkington's voice.

Egon Schiele aficionados and jaded cabaret junkies: this is your music. [Apr/May 2005, p.146]
