  • Summary: The Los Angeles singer/songwriter's eclectic debut album comes after cuts on the soundtracks to "Bridget Jones's Diary" and "Shallow Hal."
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 5 out of 7
  2. Negative: 0 out of 7
  1. A handful of tunes on this one-named wonder's debut are as cool as anything you'll hear this summer.

It's an impressive debut, and one that justifies the hype she's gotten.

Sure, it's commercial, but Rosey's expert melding of dance beats and hippie dippiness adds up to a debut slick with beatnik cool. [#8, p.122]
  4. Some of the livelier tunes don't suit her as well, and neither does overproduction. Luckily, Rosey's vocals shine through where it counts.
  5. A vibrant new artist bursting with individuality.
  6. When the album fails, it usually does so by not capitalizing on her honey-burnt pipes or by creating musical backdrops that are muddled, meandering dumps of dull.
  7. It's distinctly focused with an urban appeal while rooted in rock, and a bit comparable to the likes of Poe, Fiona Apple, and Beth Orton.
Score distribution:
  1. Positive: 2 out of 2
  2. Mixed: 0 out of 2
  3. Negative: 0 out of 2

One of the very few in my collection that I can enjoy from the first song to the last. Almost all the songs have a mellow yet funky flavor and the lyrics carry a constant positive vibe.
