  1. The loveliest album of Pernice's pretty career.
  2. Between the perfect production and the genius batch of songs, [it] makes a case for the Pernice Brothers as the best pop band on the planet.
  3. Does rediscovering what a guitar can do count as a bold new direction for Joe Pernice? Not so much. But it adds new hues to a near-flawless batch of sorrowful pop wonders, and ups the power of one of the best songwriters of his era.
  4. No one can breath breezy, sun-splashed melodies into three-minute fits of aggravation and despair quite like songwriting maestro Joe Pernice.

You just wonder how songs this miserable can sound so excruciatingly gorgeous. [Jul 2005, p.104]
  6. Discover A Lovelier You is as good an album as any in Joe Pernice’s discography.
  7. Brilliantly beautiful. [#10, p.113]
  8. 80
At times it resembles a dream playlist from some forgotten '70s FM station. [Jul 2005, p.94]
  9. As a collection of stunning, yet unassuming, pop songs it fits in nicely with the Pernice oeuvre.
  10. Especially laid-back. [8 Jul 2005, p.68]
  11. 70
A compelling exercise in craft. [Jul 2005, p.96]
  12. 70
Pernice's neuroses sound as compelling as ever. [Jul 2005, p.121]
  13. Less lush than their previous affairs, but still rich in Beach Boys-like vocal harmonies. [Jul 2005, p.120]
  14. Discover a Lovelier You is a modest triumph, and certainly not indicative of the group’s best work.
  15. The album succeeds in creating a dreamy mood that is both soothing and slightly unsettling. And yet this mood is relentless, and, ultimately, all the songs begin to sound the same.
  16. Yes, the album sounds beautiful - there's little doubt about that - but living solely on a good sound isn't enough.
  17. An album that does the exact same thing as their previous records, only not as well.
  18. If the songs go down too easy, that's part of the deal -- monster hooks or guitar freakouts would only upset the balance Pernice has taken a decade to perfect.
  19. Discover a Lovelier You will certainly satisfy Pernice's empathetic fan base, but when all is said and done, its highlights aren't nearly as insistently obvious as the Brothers' paramount achievements.
  20. Discover a Lovelier you isn't really even a bad album, only unremarkably OK.

Without a doubt the best album of 05. On par with "Yours, Mine & Ours" if not better than it. Great album!

Pernice Brothers are right now the best band at making sweet, gentle pop music.

This is pop music at it's finest. This band needs to blow up.
