If I was reviewing the first four songs this album would be a ten. "One More Time", "Digital Love", & "Harder Better Faster Stronger" are amazing songs. Unfortunately the rest of the album drags on. With only a few songs catching my ear. I was excited to listen to this album but was let down.

Ahhh, Discovery. The album that got all the people grooving to this day. One More Time, Harder Better Faster Stronger, those are only some of the bangers from Daft Punk. This is their perfect album, even betterthan Random Acces Memories. The first songs are all fun, and just feel upbeat. Middle is more sad, and somber. Then with a sweet ending for what the 14 songs you have listened to.

It's almost a perfect album. It has so many great songs, from the radio friendly "One more Time" to the slow "Veridis Quo". Every song on here shines through. The only critisism I have is that "Nightvision" is almost nothing, if this wasn't on this classic album, we wouldn't have praised this track so much, because it's, as i said, a bag of nothingness. And maybe the song "Too long" is a bit too long, but in some way the keep it fresh and don't make it repetitive which is impressive for a song that's 10 minutes of the same thing, not a Tyler the creator kind of 2 part track. The first for songs "One more time, Aerodynamic, digital love and harder, better, faster, stronger" are just straight bangers to play everywhere. Also an honorable mention is the use of the sample by kanye west of "harder, better, faster, stronger", he turned this song into something fresh and new and I recommend it. Crescendolls is like a funny, jumpy and kinda weird song, but somehow, in some strange french way, it just works. Superheroes and high life are also great, but then you come to the song "Something about us" which is in my opinion the best produced Daft Punk song ever. The intro is so soft and great with the "waw waw waw, wew wew wew". The lyrics are fun while also interesting to listen to. But I'm not going to spoil that for you, you should listen to it for yourself. After this there are some deep cuts, like voyager and short circuit, which you can easily vibe to in your room, but are not really something special though never the less, fantastic. Then Face To Face is the best daft punk ever made and is my favourite, maybe not the best produced, but just my favourite one of all time. Everything about it, the drum at the beginning + the sampling goes so well together on this track. The singing is also *chef kisses*. And then we end with "too long" which is just a cool a chill closer to the album.

Really the best EDM and house album of the 2000's.

Fav tracks: Digital love, face to face, veridis quo, something about us
Least fav track: Too long, Nightvision

This is one of the best albums of the 2000s, the best you get with French house, and, is in my opinion, the best Daft Punk album ever. Daft Punk was a great band its entire lifetime, and I think that, considering 2001 was a big year in music, this helped Daft Punk bounce from a one hit wonder to a global phenomenon. I remember when I first heard this album. I was 7. The year was 2007. I was a Greek immigrant who had just moved to Vancouver. While I was studying for a test, the radio was playing. A few minutes after I began the studying, One More Time started up. I was like, “what is this band?”. So I looked it up, and found out they were called Daft Punk! So when I was 14, I decided to get all the Daft Punk albums on vinyl. And it was great! And now, French house is my second favourite genre! Thank you, Daft Punk, for improving my music taste. Expand

This album sums up everything Daft Punk is amazing at: chill songs ('Veridis Quo'), poetic ones ('Something About Us'), electric and catchy ones ('Face to Face') and the ones based on amazing crecendos ('Too Long'). The atmosphere is perfect thanks to a stellar top notch production. It is stunning to hear all the influencies the duo manages to fuse together. I would need a week to name all the music genres intrigued in here. To name a few I found some R&B, Rock, Disco, pure Electro and Pop influences all along. The balance bewteen instrumental tracks and sung ones is great. It is soft, it is raw, so energetic and surprising, it goes directly to the heart and head. And it is in my DNA. Forever.

Discovery is a love letter to dance music. It is an amalgamation of different funk tracks of the last century, and it works super well. This album proves that music is all about doing something new, it doesn't have to be purely original (though don't just be like Robot Rock and loop the same thing for 3 minutes.) 10/10

Unmatched. This is what got me into, well, whatever you call this as a genre. It is incredibly entertaining, so much fun, with bangers like One More Time, Aerodynamics and HBFS. The album sometimes drops the tempo with Nightvision and Something About Us is just heartfelt, touching. Veridis Quo is just plain genius. This album has everything, it is pure and peak Daft Punk.

Discovery is a lively, original, varied, fun, and catchy electronic album. It's surprisingly fun for an album made so long ago; it has aged very, very well. The following song is almost as fantastic, with great, high-energy electronic music. "Love" and "Harder" work very well in their own ways. I'm not a big fan of the vocals in the songs "Superheroes" and "Too Long," but the songs still don't sound all that bad. "Us" has fascinating, wholly original music that really stands out.

Discovery is not a flawless record, but the majority of the album is filled with ageless, electrifying, organic electronic music and sounds great. It's an 8.5.

Discovery was essentially an attempt to bandwagon the rest of the songs with the hits that Daft Punk had made, and it does a terrible job of doing so. The album essentially represents the era that it came from, full of annoying and repetitive phrases that try to make you go insane simply by playing the same (excuse my french) **** over and over expecting it to get better, but it doesn't. I suppose that you could say it was good for it's time, but I don't think that human intelligence had gotten that low in the 2000s.

Not just the beginning of Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo's robotic alter egos—caused by a September 9th, 1999 accident in their studio, ahem. But the beginning of an era where electronic music began again. Discovery could be considered a main highlight in the early noughties, with "One More Time" being noteworthy as one of the greatest singles of the decade and "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" being sampled by Kanye West then remixed into their Alive tour, however, it's just a work of art in its own right, disregarding Pitchfork and all that praised it in their year-end lists.

Technically speaking—if I spoke from my own fangirl alter ego, I'd simply say "This album is **** amazing" and nothing else—Discovery has a polished production that's almost insulting for the simple fact that it's samples layered upon samples, which would later end up being sampled by other artists. And yet it's all original in its own right, especially considering the obscurity of the samples chosen. It's obviously not a concept album, but to recommend single songs off of the album seems impossible, considering it'd strip the mood from when you listen to it on continuous play. From the sappy, feel-good vibes in its lead single and "Digital Love" to the funky, chill vibes in "Something About Us", it's astonishing how cohesive a dance album can actually be. To sum it all up, it's amazing, there.

Thos album is so cool. The sounds are steady and neat with some off-beats. The backgrounds are really sick(in a good way). This album though is sometimes included with a lot of auto-tunes that are compressed which may makes the beats repetitive but it does keep up with the rythm. And the styles are ranged with different genres.

It was overshadowed by "One more time", which is genuinely a great song, but not as good as the head-y, ahead-of-it's-time, glitch-y "Face to Face", or the ten-minute, four to the flour, soul-lifting finale, "Too Long". I see this album as a true testament to the way music used to be recorded, as a journey, an emotional roller coaster from it's bigger than life start to it's finish, which brings a true, fulfilling sense of closure, helped in no small part by the anime it was made in conjunction with, Intersteller 5555 (if you haven't seen it all the way through, you don't have a complete perspective, watch it, I implore you). On a side note, I hadn't even heard "Harder, Better..." until after Kanye's (the hip hop clown) garbage had already tainted it for me, which is truly too bad because it's a fantastic little piece of space-funk. But I still think that this is the best electronic music album ever made. Every single song has good stuff about it, but in general these are the most important things to be said about Discovery: Bangalter and De Homem-Christo’s talent in creating music is undeniable and they are able to let instrumental music speak on its own. Their music, mostly without or with very simple lyrics, brings emotions with them that some musicians of other genres aren’t able to deliver with five verses. And when the duo includes the lyrics, they are outstandingly good, and not only in regards to the other lyrics in this genre. The words aren’t hazy at all, in fact, you as the listener are addressed very directly and clearly. And by that, Daft Punk shows us that you don’t need complicated or incomprehensible lyrics to be considered good by critics or audiences; you just have to include good and touching phrasing. In some parts, i.e. the album’s final song, the ironically titled 10-minute-dance-track Too Long, the two French hommes simply bank on sing-along mantras like “Can you feel it?” and it works! Each and every one of the 14 tracks included has something unique about it that should make every die-hard fan of other music genres quickly convert to house. If you think that this type of music is monotonous and boring, Daft Punk proves you wrong. They manage to create so many different layers of electronic music in one album while still staying relatively cohesive (they even made an utterly impressive movie to this album, entitled Interstellar 5555). The first six songs are purely amazing, the other eight are still awesome and your interest won’t get lost at any point in this one-hour-long CD, I promise. Daft Punk had sparked my interest with their 1997 debut Homework, but after this release, I became an absolute fan of their purely revolutionizing work. Discovery isn’t only fantastic to dance to, it is also one of the most important albums in the history of electronic music. Expand

There is so much that can be said of this amazing album, but instead of talking about it, you better hear what you really are going to marvel at this beautiful and unique album.

Amazing, Best dance album ever! Completly fresh and pioneers of the french house genre of music, and does not sound cheesy or bloated at any point.

Highly recommended for any fan of electronic music, or anybody who loves good music in general

Beautiful music, and that's the only thing that really matters. Every song of this album is a unique piece of art, the joyful and dance-able "One More Time", "Voyager" with a driving in the sunset feeling or "Aerodynamic" with a face melting guitar solo, this album is art.

This, my friends, is musical perfection. Everything about this album is perfect. The individual tracks are amazing, and what makes Discovery even greater is that every track has its place. This makes it especially great to listen to the album as a whole. You need to have heard this album. Trust me when I say it doesn't get much better than this.

The many intricate and complex songs of Daft Punk's masterpiece "Discovery" are extraordinary. Full of catchy, melodic hooks such as that in "One More Time" and "Verdis Quo". Even "Too Long" is actually too short. Futuristic, ahead-of-its-time, innovative classic.

How strange that this album received some bad reviews. It covers all bases - catchy pop, driving trance, electro house and, perhaps most acutely, sombre electronica in Veridis Quo. Some beleaguered reviewers need to put this in their stereo again, turn the sound up to 11 and enjoy a smorgasbord of electronic rhythms.

Daft Punk are such stellar, meticulous producers that they make any sound work, even superficially dated ones like spastic early-'80s electro/R&B ("Short Circuit") or faux-orchestral synthesizer baroque ("Veridis Quo").
  2. 70
Matching Homework in quirkiness, buoyancy, and club-ready freak-beats, Discovery combines the best of what Daft Punk has to offer: mid-'80s synth-pop ("Digital Love"), sleazy euro-funk ("Harder Better Faster Stronger"), shake-your-booty electro-metal with spacey guitar effects ("Aerodynamic" -- Basement Jaxx meets Eddie Van Halen), and minimal, big-beat tunes that Underworld wishes it would have thought of first ("Superheroes").
  3. Not enough of this album delivers on the promise of [lead single] "One More Time."
