Jun 11, 2012Do Things is a cool treat of a record, filled with catchy and sweet songs that have a relaxed and easygoing happiness that is impossible to resist.
-
Jun 21, 2012The record sounds tired, dreamy, and wasted in the daylight at five in the afternoon– it tries to be breezy, but instead still feels like 99 degrees of heat.
-
Jul 3, 2012Do Things has a few missteps, but May just keeps smiling and charging forward.
-
Jun 19, 2012As a whole, the album treads the fine line of genre fetishism and reinvention.
-
Jun 11, 2012Full of campy affectation presented with a shiny flourish, 'Do Things' is not fundamentally a bad album, but the constant happy-go-lucky nonsense, along with the un-imaginative songwriting, just seems a little contrived.
-
Jun 11, 2012Stunningly bright, impeccably trim and dance-y, the level of song craftsmanship here has garnered Beach Boys comparisons, but Ace of Base might be a more accurate touchstone, with a bit of Christopher Owens' (Girls) deep, bummed-out vocal blur as well.
-
MagnetJun 13, 2012May piles up cresting false falsettos, disco pulses and Beach Boys wall-of-sound swells and, with the exceptionally sappy "Tell Her," offers a serviceable "So Happy Together" homage. [No.88 p.57]

Jun 11, 2012Do Things represents an admirable sonic development for May and co. Packed full of songs to wile away summers to come, it feels like an undiscovered soundtrack to summers past as well.
-
Jul 12, 2012While Do Things is "easy" music, music that sounds great on a boat in the sun or accompanying front-porch Coronas, it's not likely to stick with you after a listen or two.
-
Jun 12, 2012More of a long, leisurely ride than a bundle of cuts, Do Things is a pleasant, shiny trip.
-
Jun 11, 2012For all the good-natured vibes this record gives off, it's hard to ignore that Do Things is also a limited collection. It's easy to suspect Dent May's ambitions are as simple as to craft a record that finds itself endlessly stuffed into car stereos this summer.
-
Aug 7, 2012Do Things, unsurprisingly, ends on a run of unimaginative songs that make it increasingly difficult to want to keep listening to it. It's an unfortunate album that will no doubt pander to a certain group of people but will likely leave everyone else cold. There's nothing here apart from the lead-off track that's worth a repeat listen.
-
Jun 26, 2012Although there is a lot to like on Do Things, there is one major flaw: it all sounds so much alike.
-
Jun 11, 2012There's a deep sincerity here among the saccharine, and no amount of painstakingly throwback falsetto harmonies can shroud May's songwriting from its fluttering, well-intentioned heart.
-
UncutJun 12, 2012He may come to rue the day he traded his trusty ukulele for a cheapo drum machine that makes his attempts at pop-funk sound more gauche than his nifty songcraft deserves. [Jul 2012, p.77]
-
Under The RadarJul 9, 2012Sticky and overblown, this could be an album that gets old after a few listens. Lucky for us, it just doesn't. [Jun 2012, p.146]

Jul 16, 2012Dent May has a terrific voice that partially recalls Brian Wilson, as well as Stephin Merritt. On his debut album, 2009
