Don't Believe The Truth strips away the layered excess of albums like 1997's Be Here Now to revisit the streamlined pomposity of the group's earliest discs. [Jul 2005, p.182]

The Gallaghers sound more comfortable than ever in their skins. [Jun 2005, p.102]
  4. Oasis has given us another album chock-full of jangley Brit-pop numbers and stadium-rockers, and the result is a formulaic rock record.

Noel Gallagher has even less to say than he used to. [Jun 2005, p.112]
  6. There are a lot of reasons this album doesn't gel, not least that Liam Gallagher now sounds like a singing anti-smoking campaign, and the brash, snotty arrogance that once sold "Cigarettes and Alcohol" and "Champagne Supernova" is crushed out by his gruffness.
  7. Mediocre melodies ride atop formulaic songwriting.

Despite what critics say, Oasis continues to make fantastic music. This is yet another solid effort. Mucky Fingers is the standout track.

Back to basics alright. Musically it is much more tighter and simpler than their recent attempts. My favourites are Keep the Dream Alive, Back to basics alright. Musically it is much more tighter and simpler than their recent attempts. My favourites are Keep the Dream Alive, Love Like A Bomb, Part of the Queue and God Thinks Im Abel, some great guitar riffs (love like a bomb and Dream) and some great singing (duet on Let there Be Love). The Beatle Revolver esque A Bell Will Ring is also a good rocker. All in all, not bad...lets hope for an even better one in a few years... are the boys back on track?? Expand

Bashers will disagree, but there it is. The middle of this album -- Love Like a Bomb, The Importance of Being Idle, The Meaning of Soul, Guess God Thinks I'm Abel, Part of the Queue -- is absolutely fantastic. As good a stretch as on any previous Oasis album. Mucky Fingers is irredeemably bad; and the remaining tracks are tight, solid, not spectacular pop songs. Bottom line: if Oasis had never existed and a brand new band came out with this as their debut album, critics would be going universally crazy for it. It's quite good. Expand
