It'd be unfair to tag Dreams Come True as merely a curio for Grizzly Bear fans. It's more than that--but only just.

The lack of focus and discernible melodies keeps CANT from being anything more than an interesting diversion. [#81, p. 53]

Taylor isn't pushing the limits of pop so much as flattening and stretching them out until they evaporate into nothingness. He creates a dreamy mood, but you may not be awake by the end.

Dreams Come True is nothing if not well-produced and lovingly assembled. Problem is: there ain't no soul.

This full-length debut confirms Taylor's love for Arthur Russell's underwater electronic grooves, but these fussy, avant-prog slow jams rarely come up for air.

Dreams Come True throws in the towel, leaving the impression of a half-sketched idea that failed to materialize fully no matter how much it was fussed over.

The issue with Dreams Come True is not a lack of talent but a lack of time and focus.

Champions a matured version of the chillwave sound, proudly displaying lo-fi influence, among songs as versatile in style as ranging from a psy-folk sound, to bare acoustic, to ambient or purely electronic in nature. Personally I enjoyed it more than any Grizzly Bear album, and am quite surprised by its relatively lukewarm reception. Full Review »
