Impressing is a word. I looked it up.

Sparklehorse is brilliant.

'Dreamt...' ticks all the right Sparklehorse boxes - you have gentle beauty (Shade and Honey), acoustic simplicity (Return to Me), full throttle punk (Ghost), sparkly pop (...Sunshine) and a bit of a tearjerker (Morning Hollow). There is something missing though - the album doesn't seem to have a unique voice of its own like 'Goodmorningspider' or 'Wonderful Life' did. Its a bit more like 'Vivadixie...', some great songs that fit ok together to make a solid album. The one real exception is the final track, a lengthy instrumental mood piece that probably sounds like a dull idea on paper but actually works really well and gives this album something unique. Oh, and this is the first album not to mention Captain Howdy in a single song - what is the Sparklehorse world coming to?… Expand

This album fuses together everything that is great about Good Morning Spider and It's a Wonderful Life. It's not radically different from either, but the familiar is welcome when it comes to a singular (and not especially prolific) talent like Linkous.

Well, it's good of course. I don't think Linkous is capable of a bad album. But, after five years of waiting it's a little bit of an anticlimax. The progression through his first three albums kept each fresh and exciting. While this album is still inventive, it's hardly pushing on from "It's a Wonderful Life". It even contains one of the same songs (the hidden track "Morning Hollow"). I just hope that now Linkous is back recording, we can expect more skewed genius from him in future.… Expand

Finally, after 5 years, Mark Linkous manages to release his materpiece. Never has a voice sounded so close to fade into black.

Great music - it is only now that I can appreciate why there was such a long wait!

My only problem with this latest effort from the very talented Mark Linkous, is the fact that no new ideas are brought to the fore despite the fact his last album was released half a decade ago! That is a mild criticism though when you get enraptured by a lovely tune like Shade and Honey anyway...

This is very, very impressing album that can easily be underestimated. Mark Linkous doesn´t give away his secrets quickly. I´m deeply impressed by the melange of sunny surfaces and deep melancolia. This is music for people who are attracted to David Lynch movies and deep listening!

Quite a disappointing step back from It's a Wonderful Life. Hope Linkous will make up for that sooner or later

Impressing is not a word btw. Anyway, this album is disappointing. Lulling melodies, lo-fi-ish production and frontal micd vocals a great album not make. I really miss the Good Morning Spider days.

Yes, yes, it's good, of course. But where's the innovation, where's the development from their previous work? As others have said, Dreamt is more akin to Vivadixie than either of the intermediary releases - there's a frustrating sense of regression about this. Some beautifully crafted songs (and that's rare enough anywhere), but it's just more of the same. A shame after so long an incubatory period.… Expand
