  1. Those vocals are the magic ingredient, saving potentially limp tracks from extinction. But it’s equally impressive to hear how confidently the debut holds itself together, flitting between styles but always shining a spotlight on a legitimate pop sensation. She’s the real deal.

The final result is a debut album brimming with confidence, confidence not only in Lipa’s own voice and her eye for a chorus, but in the emotive quality of her lyrics.

An excellent first effort from a budding pop star.

Lyrically the album is an intriguing cocktail of emotions, veering from insecurity and vulnerability to assertiveness and outright feminine power.

A lot of it, like album closer ‘Homesick’ featuring none--other than Coldplay’s Chris Martin, feels overthought and calculated. It’s a shame because those moments where Dua Lipa truly shines are those moments where she was allowed to just be herself.

Despite a few generic offerings (No Goodbyes is mostly just the singer breathily uttering the words “don’t go back” on loop), this is a solid pop debut that is high on summery nonchalance.

Combined with massive hooks, flashes of Robyn and Rihanna, and drops that will give you chills, heartache has never been so much fun. [Jul 2017, p.109]

After listening toIn this album, she offers her fans, and casual listeners a musical escape with such a strong and unique vocal performance. After listening to the album quite a few times, I've learned her pattern in song-writing with infectious choruses that introduces her enigmatic persona yet drops some hints of her vulnerabilities to the general public.

Aside from the album's hit breakthrough single "New Rules", out of the whopping 25 tracks through its conclusion, there are a lot of songs that helped define this incredible body of work such as "Hotter Than Hell", "Be The One", "IDGAF", "Blow Your Mind (Mwah)", "Kiss and Make Up (feat. BLACKPINK)", together with some underrated ones such as its opening track; "Genesis", "Lost In Your Light (feat. Miguel)", "Homesick", "No Goodbye", "Room For 2", "Bad Together", "Thinking 'Bout You", "Want To" and "Last Dance". Dua Lipa did not miss the chance to include her hit collaborations with Calvin Harris, Silk City, Martin Garrix and Sean Paul, which greatly benefitted the entire roll-out of her debut era enough to solidify her as pop music's next It girl to look out for.

Very repetitive but with well chosen singles. I don’t think that is good enough for a debut album
