American critics in particular have been buzzing about this album as "a return to form", but to me it feels quite lifeless sonically and a bit tame whwn it comes to songwriting. Ryan is actually better when he sounds pissed and releases albums just for the heck of it..his three 2005 albums are all superior to this dull-sounding sobered-up version of the multiple ryan personas.

Although it is nice to see Ryan Adams finally getting good reviews, it seems as though the critics are compensating for past reviews that missed the mark and perhaps kowtowing to the region of fans that for years have hailed Mr. Adams' talent. The songs that work the best are the songs with just Ryan and his guitar...the band accompaniment on the other tracks seems too rote. Expand

Adams often finds himself revisiting his past glories on Easy Tiger. [Jul 2007, p.178]
