    The dragging beats, washes of synthesiser and eclectic musical references – chillwave and crunk hip-hop, Aaliyah and France Gall – somehow contrive to sound not just eerie and desolate but cosseting as well, inexorably drawing the listener into a deeply troubling world.

    Fantastic end to the trilogy of mix tapes, a great insight to relationships with women, drugs and depression. Great production : Great lyrics : Great emotion. It has a fitting tribute to MIchael Jackson which the King of Pop would be proud of. A one to watch in 2012.… Expand

    House of Balloons was dark, Thursday was darker, and Echoes of Silence is the darkest of all. Echoes of Silence was the most anticipated mixtape of winter 2011 and it brought what the fans been craving from him; his breathtaking voice (reminiscences the King of Pop, Michael Jackson), the creative chaotic beats, and the eerie mixture into R&B. Let me just say that nothing will ever beat what the House of Balloons ever had. My personal favorites from the mixtape were......well, all of them.… Expand

    I confess I underrated House of Balloons when I first heard it. Discovering its potential and beauty in full took me few listens but I am not going to make the same mistake with Echoes of Silence, the third and last part of The Weekndâ… Expand

    Obviously he's packed all of his really good songs into 'House of Balloons'. Neither 'Thursday' or his 3rd mixtape right here can follow up his absolutely awesome debut. I can't say that I didn't enjoy EoS because of Abel's fantastic voice and the nice lyrics of the songs, but he's pretty much retelling the stories of 'House of Balloons' (as Thursday already did it). 3 9-song-mixtapes within 9 months had a bad impact on the quality of the product. EoS's greatest moments come with the opener, a cover of legendary Dirty Diana, Same Old Song, and the title-giving closure that tells the story of the sad life of a stripper (also not the first time we've heard that from him, however). All in all, it's a good time to listen to - mainly because of his style and not because of the creativity in relation to 'House of Balloons'.… Expand
