[The album is] somewhere between his recent acid house work as Speed Dealer Moms and his dramatic collaborations with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez and Wu-Tang acolytes Black Knights--and pretty much everything he's done to date. [No. 110, p.55]

And it works well, sounding soulful and not uncommercial. Could have been a hit if a few more people were aware of it.

Very strong album and far above the work he was doing post-Shadows Collide With People and before these electronic records. Enclosure soundsVery strong album and far above the work he was doing post-Shadows Collide With People and before these electronic records. Enclosure sounds like a distillation of the recent electronic work he's been putting out - it's a honed and complex sound. To be fair, the album is a grower and needs repeated listens to really get used to, but is a very rewarding experience if one is willing to commit to and give it some time and attention. I'm a huge fan of JF and I have enjoyed his recent electronic focused work like PBX and the two Eps. Hes explored an awesome, original soundI'm a huge fan of JF and I have enjoyed his recent electronic focused work like PBX and the two Eps. Hes explored an awesome, original sound with it and has made me question what exactly it is that makes music good. Because even when you are into one of these songs and you are singing along, sometimes its worth it just to step out for a second and actually listen to this strange, beautiful mess of sound and question what it is that makes this song so fantastic. This is a feeling I have enjoyed for all his most recent work but it is also a feeling which is somehow lost on me with this album. Enclosure is certainly intriguing and sets a great tone. However, the melodic nature of the album somehow isn't quite as good. Most of the songs don't grab my attention and whole songs can pass without my noticing. Its hard to pin point exactly where this album fails me as its hard to understand what it was I even liked about the previous electronic albums. Frusciante is on a very interesting journey right now and I will follow him all the way. He is certainly one of musics most interesting artists and its just a shame I haven't enjoyed this album as much as I hoped. Full Review »
