  1. Since all the lines make sense, and almost all the stanzas almost make sense, you keep waiting for the songs to make sense. And waiting, and waiting, through calm, memorable arrangements that are never in a hurry.
  2. The production and arrangements on End Of Love are more varied and exciting than on Snide's previous efforts. [#8, p.106]

Barzelay's eye for quirky detail and ear for delicious melody keeps a nice balance to things. [Jun 2005, p.105]
  4. An almost uniformly excellent outing.
  5. Clem Snide's fifth album holds no surprises for anyone who has heard albums one through four. End of Love is just as whip smart, goofy, and satisfying as any of them.
  6. These songs are silly without being cloying. [May 2005, p.134]
  7. Triangulates the common ground between Luna, American Music Club and Red House Painters. [#14, p.105]
  8. 80
Sharply written and softly played, the perfectly bittersweet End Of Love balances the books. [#67, p.87]
  9. End Of Love tracks like "The Sound Of German Hip-Hop," "Tiny European Cars," and "Jews For Jesus Blues" tell sketchy stories that describe moments of surprising awareness.
  10. It's sweet and sad and frequently hilarious.
  11. You'll find yourself laughing through the tears. [25 Feb 2005, p.102]
  12. A winning collection of giddy, C&W laments. [Jun 2005, p.111]
  13. [Barzelay's] sharp eye and endearingly nerdy voice enlivens his band's meticulous acoustic pitter-patter.
  14. End of Love isn't Barzalay's best collection of songs, and the production tends to gloss over the instruments so songs like "Collapse" and "When We Become" sound subdued and blandly unobtrusive.
  15. Contemplative and comforting, this is inoffensive Americana for the brainy set.
  16. 60
Still shambles too freely but features stellar moments. [Jun 2005, p.108]
  17. This smart and sophisticated country-rock however, is punctuated by uninspired songs that sound like outtakes from Recovering the Satellites.

I like this, but it's not their best. Soft Spot is one of my favorite albums, and The Ghost of Fashion is really good, so check those out before you make your way to this one. Full Review »

"(You Make Me Wanna Break) Something Beautiful" is definitely going on my manic depressive mix iPod playlist. The whole album is pretty humorous and melodic. Full Review »
