  1. The record isn't bad, it's actually enjoyable. But the band has continued in its trend toward becoming more of a hard rock band and less of the punk icon it used to be.

Rise Against are still a band with plenty to say. All the d-beats and raw vocals in the world don't mean a thing if you don't have a message you believe in.

Thankfully, the band, aided by longtime producer Bill Stevenson (Descendents, Black Flag), have once again tapped into that intangible magic that makes them so great, and have delivered a full-on rager with Endgame.

While Endgame is a strong album, and certainly an honourable one, it does lack an ingredient that might be identified as magic.

While speaking politely by punk standards, Rise Against still brims with a dissident perspective. Ultimately, Endgame keeps pointing toward a hopeful break from the status quo.

Rise Against have slowed their music, and in the process, have created a hell of a rock album.

Endgame is inherently the follow-through of its predecessor, with additional flavors that may or may not help the cause lyrically prevalent.

Endgame, rife with doomsday images, plays to both the band's strengths (shout-from-the-rooftops melodies) and weaknesses (a flair for the melodramatic).

Chicago punks mark 10-year anniversary in characteristically fiery form. [12 Mar 2011, p. 51]

A fine record from an ever-impressive band.

The most important thing to know about Endgame is that it will provide continued success for Rise Against.

The melodies are huge, the hoarse vocals are fairly infrequent – but this is probably one of the most punk rawk albums Rise Against have recorded.

Rise Against's mastery of anthemic punk rock is second only to their mastery of being pissed off.

Rise Against's strident anti-ignorance messages have coursed through several albums of tightly wound, good-intentions punk.

No matter which extreme you believe it to favor, Endgame sees Rise Against as fiery, passionate and motivated as ever, when it comes to their wide-reaching social commentary.

The band is no longer preaching exclusively to the converted-and with that in mind, Endgame's outspokenness and passion sound downright vital.
