Era is another solid album; with the laser-like focus Disappears have, it's hard to imagine them delivering anything less.
  2. Aug 26, 2013
Era is the sort of record you can just sink into.
  3. Aug 27, 2013
Era showcases all the work Disappears have done cutting and splicing and regathering their sound together to regain their identity. It’s still lurking in the shadows, but finally, it's there.

Living in any city brings its share of alienation. Disappears render the loneliness in Chicago’s orange smog and shattered buildings.
  5. Aug 26, 2013
Ultimately, Era is a difficult album to get a handle on. Much like Wire’s 1979 masterpiece, it really, properly throws you the first few times, but the haunting oddness of the tracks means they gradually burrow their way under your skin.
  6. Uncut
    Oct 10, 2013
The prevalent mood is somewhat dour, and the loss of Steve Shelley blunts some of the dynamism in Disappears' dogged repetitions. [Nov 2013, p.69]
  7. Sep 4, 2013
Intentionally dreary, it could still benefit from a spark in the dark.
  8. 60
Era joins the other three albums as a missed opportunity.
