Much more organic and live. [#25, p.100]
  2. The product of a band that clearly loves its formula enough to tease it a little, Everybody is another fetching expression of The Sea And Cake's never-changing moods.

Their arrangements are tidy as ever and the disc's energized pop sounds like it came together on the stage rather than the studio. [May 2007, p.97]

Everybody has something for, well, everybody. [Jun 2007, p.151]
  5. It doesn't really matter how this record sits in comparison to the last few; it's gorgeous.
  6. An album of satisfying, summery rock.
  7. They take prime garage rock and global beats from past works and flirtatiously commingle them to craft a gossamer rock - steady creation.
  8. That it still sounds mischievous and human through the band's studious chops and omnivorous listening habits is no small feat, as these qualities have eluded them for quite a while.
  9. None of this is groundbreaking music, not even in comparison with their previous work.
  10. You pretty much know what to expect from a new Sea and Cake disc: breezy lounge-pop tunes embroidered with sleek keyboard blips and gentle drum-machine pitter-patter.
  11. I’m tired of being simply “satisfied” by the Sea and Cake.
  12. Whilst there has been a little external redecoration, many core elements remain in the band’s unchangeable centre of gravity.
  13. An album that is easy to listen to, but hard to grasp, Everybody wraps its complexities in bright soap bubble diaphanies.
  14. Despite flashes of unexpected vigour, Everybody is ultimately more variation-on-a-theme than it is wheel reinvention.

Fans will notice a more organic, rougher approach to the formula of jazz chords, pretty dissonance and summery melody lines. [12 May 2007]
  16. This album nearly reaches 1970s AM radio breeziness with its sanded-down, slightly machinelike funk and marmalade guitars.
  17. Everybody might be less than lustrous in their own catalog but tops most group's bests.
  18. From the first notes of Everybody, the band is trying to recapture the fire of its early albums. But the band has been moving away from that style since its inception; it's not surprising that the transition back may not be as smooth as they had hoped.
  19. Under The Radar
    60
Everybody is ultimately a misguided abandonment of what made the band's earlier work so essential. [#17, p.87]
  20. The Sea and Cake sound like they’ve hit their stride, confident enough to let their pure musical talents do all the speaking.

Prekop's crew have mastered a more intricate approach, seasoning their gently introspective tales of "distracted and lazy" lovers with stronger ingredients. [Jun 2007, p.95]
  22. Mojo
    60
Everybody ultimately suffers from a dearth of catchy melodies. [Jun 2007, p.112]
  23. The Sea And Cake are ultimately an infuriatingly inoffensive band.

This album is turning out to be a creeper though, a slow cooker; one of the few albums from this year I'll still be listening to next year. Full Review »

shocked at the low marks. 'everybody' is the sound of a creatively reinvigorated band and perfect summer listening.
