GlenAug 1, 20019A fan since People are People...Exciter is a great newfound energy and life in the band. It's worth following them around the new and unpredicted paths to where they are today. Only con is a couple songs have pushed the sonic edge a bit creating the occoasional reflex to turn it down. The tour really finishes off the Exciter experience...their best in a long time.

SteveHMay 7, 20034A must say I was disappointed with this album. I have been a DM fan for some time now. The positive aspect of this album is that they embark on new areas of music. The down side is that is lacks evigorating and emotionally grabbing songwriting of which they used to have. Buy "Songs of Faith and Devotion" and you'll see an example of better musicianship.

WolfyHepcatOct 16, 20017The album has some extra kinde of strange. Very smooth, very silence. This is a album for some aged people (like me 25 ;-). Otherwise I miss the power and energie which is in the older albums e.g. 101 or violator - sorry but in this direction that album is only some averaged popcorn.

MattOct 6, 20019This album was a well put together compilation. It is appealing to those who may not even like DM or their type of music. It's tone and overall feeling is immense. This album deserves a lot more than the credit it has been given. I was lucky enough to see them in concert at MSG in Newe York and they were absolutely tremendous. They are the best band since the beatles.

RafaelM.Jul 25, 200110Great new album! DM has a great new sound although they are missing the long synths that they're known for like in "enjoy the silence." Althougth the new music direction has opened up many doorways for the future sound of DM. DM will live on forever.

DexStudJul 29, 20097At times very beautiful and melodic. Dave Gahan sings like an angel. However most of the songs lack a specail zing that would make the album great instead of good.

JessicaD.Oct 26, 200110Exciter is an awesome CD. I think it's comparable to Ultra, but there's a certain amount of progression evident in both the music and the lyrics. It's dark, but not depressing; the the overall compilation is worth far better reviews. Depeche Mode is one of the best bands on the planet, and this latest CD is just further proof.

Exciter glimmers like a gentle ambient doodle with vocals: The beats are mostly minimal, closer to early Kraftwerk than to current electronica. But because Gore's songwriting is so focused and Gahan's vocal presence is so commanding, the softest songs leap to the foreground like a whisper from a lover.
-
70Though not in the same league as Some Great Reward or Violator, Exciter is a solid effort and refreshing reminder of the variety of pop music.
-
Like nearly any DM record, Exciter, their 14th album, mostly leaves one hungry for the inevitable remixes.
