  1. The songs he thinks up are somehow both resonate and impossible to anticipate--old and new at once.

If Family Perfume Vol. 1 can be seen as a progression where Presley is settling into his skin, Family Perfume Vol. 2 is a cathartic catalogue of letters never sent, the consequences of past decisions poignant enough to keep Presley musing, wide-eyed, remorseful--but nonetheless hopeful.

Vol. 2 dive-bombs deeper into the zonked-out ephemera, letting the outré tape noises and sound effects hold center stage.

Towards the middle, the record does sag from a heavy dose of Presley's weird experimentation; however, with 15 songs that clock in at just over 40 minutes, that moment is short lived, and all is well with the beautiful, meditative exercise that is "Makers".

What keeps Family Perfume, Vol. 2 interesting even with its dips into overly derivative songcraft is its constantly shifting production.
