  • Summary: The major-label debut from the American Idol star sticks to her style on the show--folk-tinged, reflective rock reminiscent of the early-'60s era.

She has a keen, finely honed pop instinct all her own.

Her debut album, Farmer's Daughter, is consistent with the singer-songwriter's public persona, then, because it finds her attempting to rise above production values that are fundamentally at odds with what she does well.

All in all, Farmer's Daughter is better than you might expect, which isn't to say it's great. Too many tracks aim straight for the middle.

If she had the right co-writers, the kind who could pull melodies out of her sincere strumming and down-home jamming -- the kind the whole American Idol empire was designed to bring into the equation -- Farmer's Daughter would deliver on Bowersox's promise instead of sounding like a local singer/songwriter performing on a stage she's too modest to fill.

Crystal's songs are beautiful and her lyrics are honest and real. I love her melodies and have to say, I really like the songs she writes without anybody else best. I'm looking forward to seeing Crystal's career blossom. I do prefer songs like Holy Toledo, Farmer's Daughter, and Speak Now, that have a folky sound to them. I prefer that to the more country sounding songs but all in all, this is an excellent debut. Expand

As promised by the end of the show, Crystal brings back the 60s folksy, throw-back music with a up-to-date sound in her debut album "Farmer's Daughter". She explores the different genres in its root-sy forms and puts her trademark soulful grit making the debut one of the most original Americana music currently on the shelves. This CD could actually teach kids about the history of music and how it has evolved to what we hear today, it has that much diversity in it. Moreover it also touches the soul of the listener with also being one of the most personal albums ever put out. Lyrically brilliant songs like Farmer's Daughter and Holy Toledo should garner the attention of the award critics and the whole album just takes us on a journey into the life of an artist who has lived. I give this album an absolute 10/10. Congratulations Crystal! Expand
  3. This would be a strong debut album from any artist, I don't listen to this type a music and I gave it an 8. Its my second favorite album for and Idol artist, the first being Allison Iraheta's debut from last year. Expand
  4. Crystal has a pretty voice, these songs are so boring they put me to sleep! Very weak, country leaning album! So Crystal "Whatever happened With the good old rocking roll" sure is not on this album. Maybe should of got some pros to help with your so so writing skills! Disappointed fan. Expand
