Perhaps the most highly anticipated indie album of 2011, Father, Son, Holy Ghost was touted as a classic even before its release. These are weighty expectations for any band to endure, let alone a young band from San Francisco poised to release only its second full-length album... read the rest of the review at http://www.resonantpassage.net/2011/09/08/girls-father-son-holy-ghost/

Father, Son, Holy Ghost is one of the best album of 2011. The music, while trying to be sort of nostalgic rock, sounds surprisingly fresh. Christopher Owens' singing is hard to get used to at first, but worth the first couple listens.

Despite its lofty title, the second studio album by Girls (two boys in fact) is a great treat for a lazy Sunday noon. Girls’ formula is plain simple (guitar, percussion and organ) and their assumption to reach for the spirit of the ’60s and ’70s is not especially original. However, these 11 songs are executed so incredibly and at ease that it seems impossible not to surrender to their charm. There are no low points here so it is rather hard to find the true standouts. But if I found myself in life-threatening circumstances, I would tell you to listen to My Ma, a sweet and mellow son-to-mother gospel-like ode, and Die, a hard rock track with surprisingly soft and folk ending, in the first place. Vomit may have a disgusting title but you don’t judge the book by its cover. Expand

The sound is loaded with several generations of influences - from Pink Floyd and Bowie to Spiritualized and the Flaming Lips - but is deeply steeped in the early '70s; this album could have been made at any point in the past 40 years.

a record that is both this good and a display of a band with so much more to show us does not come along often.

They sound like they'll probably end up being one of the most enduring bands of our era.

FSHG continues this wheelhouse effect, drifting from Smile session bounce on opener "Honey Bunny" into the heavy-psych wind tunnel of "Die" and sprawling anchor "Vomit."
