Its quite a feat to create an album that is not only haunting, but uncompromisingly beautiful and utterly serene.
-
Because no other act really sounds like Labradford, which matches its Ennio Morricone-style melodies and analog synths with a sense of menace missing from most ambient music, it's forgivable that only subtle distinctions differentiate one recording from the next.

MagnetLabradford continues to make music so quiet and haunting that, like falling leaves, creaking floorboards or the gentle flapping of bird wings, it seems to exist on its own terms... [#50, p.97]
-
Simple, subtle, and quite beautiful, the 37-minute album rewards during deep concentration and as use for background.
-
Alternative PressA short, quiet, and relatively still bit of genius. [#154, p.82]
-
Fixed Context is a prime example of mutable sound, which is to say, songs that are less about structure than direction.
-
If ever an album rewarded repeated listening, it's this one.
-
The WireNo great leap forward, but with a sound this distinctive, that's not yet a problem. [#205, p.59]
