Flux Outside

Despite its flaws, Flux Outside is an album filled to the brim with energy, sincerity, and fearlessness of a music world overrun by genre conventions.

Flux Outside flies by effortlessly and still leaves you with choruses you'll be singing to yourself long after the disc ends.

The Bangs seem to place every drum stutter, keyboard whirr, and Schafer howl on equal footing, a nice testament to the tightness and democracy of their musical unit, so pushing the songwriting further to the forefront could come at the risk of toppling the delicate balance the not-so-delicate Flux Outside achieves. May they never learn to sit still.

Flux Outside is one of those oft-sought specimens in an genre dominated by fruitless homage and shoddy fusions: a whole greater than the sum of its parts.

Silver Steps and Slow Cathedral Melt are all howled melancholy, and equally exciting are Triccs' sonic twists and turns, even if they are exhausting, exhilarating listens.

All the elements are tightly packed, in a crowded production that crams together (distorted) keyboards and (distorted) guitars, pushes the singers toward a tuneful yell and splashes cymbals over the top.

The thrill of Flux Outside is that, if it had its way, it wouldn't stick around either.

The sheer abundance of ideas starts to wear the listener down a little ma few more slow-burners like "Bad News, Strange Luck" wouldn't go a miss. [Jun 2011, p.94]
