The biggest complaint about From the Top of Willamette Mountain is that it could have been tightened up a bit more, it’s safe to say that James is an impressive songwriter, a considerable skill to have given how easy it is to churn out singer/songwriter folk these days.

From the Top is a mix of folk and rock and Americana, but James bends them all into new and daring shapes. [Jan 2013, p.95]

From the Top of Willamette Mountain sounds more confident than the UK debut he released earlier this year.

James has crafted an envelope of sound to bolster his unique, almost choirboy styled vocals, that's easy to tumble into.

Joshua James' second release of 2012 is a thoughtful and pleasantly warm collection of songs that are steeped in the sound of Americana.
