Country star Keith Urban's sixth release gives lie to the idea that angst is the best fuel for songwriting. On this lean but enjoyable eight-song set, Urban and his fellow songwriters are mostly in high spirits.
The singer and husband of Nicole Kidman sounds a bit more at ease here, which doesn't mean Get Closer lacks for pop-country pep; on no fewer than three songs do we find him jumping into a car and chasing his troubles away.
That's two versions of a daylight watch, from two ends of the romantic spectrum, and Mr. Urban sells them both. It's the emotional distance between them that lends this album, optimistically titled Get Closer, a hint of intimacy.
Very easy to listen to. Strong album with many good and strong tracks. The only problem is the length of the album if you have the standard edition, needs more. Deluxe edition adds three extra new tracks that deserve to be in the standard edition.…Full Review »
